About
Walk in the footsteps of the Ice Age hunter and enter a world of fire and flint. Discover a legacy etched in stone with cave art 10,000 years older than the pyramids, and medieval Witch Marks as a reminder of more superstitious times. Explore life on the edge of the Ice Age world. Creswell Crags features the only authenticated Ice Age cave art in Britain. Stone tools and remains of animals found in the caves by archaeologists provide evidence for a fascinating story of life during the last Ice Age between 50,000 and 10,000 years ago. Robin Hood Cave has more apotropaic Witch Marks than anywhere else in the UK. The unique archaeology, geology, wildlife and fauna have resulted in Creswell Crags being one of the most protected sites in the UK. The beautiful natural landscape is also popular with walkers and boasts a variety of rare species. Visit the museum or book a cave tour. See website for details.

Rock Art Tour
Oct 2021
We came today for the Rock Art tour and we greatly enjoyed ourselves. Our guide Sarah was very enthusiastic and knowledge and was keen to answer any questions that we might have had. We also really enjoyed the exhibition and felt that the information on display was really useful. The cafe is also lovely, with a fantastic range of cakes and other foods. I am a teacher and I would be very eager to bring my class for a visit!

Great tour and nice day out
Oct 2021 • Family
Just wanted to say a massive thank you to our tour guide. I unfortunately didn't catch her name but she was fantastic. A very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaging young lady, really knew her stuff and had a real passion for what she does. I do feel her energy really added to the tour and made it even more enjoyable.

The facilities are brilliant, the shop is nicely setup and the toilets and cafe were clean and well equipped. Plenty of car parking and some nice walks for the dog as well as plenty of picnic benches

Home from home

The little gorge at Creswell Crags is a really special place. It's easy to see how it became. favourite 'destination' for Stone Age hunters. I did the 'Life in the Ice Age' tour and the 'Rock Art' tour, both with our guide Simon who was absolutely brilliant at bringing the caves to life for all different ages and people. You come away with a vision of how the Stone Age hunters lived, and that they were in many ways they made a home there, just as we do. The two caves I visited are facing each other on opposite sides of the gorge, just a 5 minute walk from the main building with it's great little cafe and gift shop. There are very few places like this in the UK, Definitely recommended for a fascinating day out.

Creswell Crags - Well worth a visit!
Sep 2021 • Family
We had a fab time at Creswell Crags meusem and caves. The walk around the immediate gorge site takes about half an hour and its certainly a special site with its rocky outcrops and caves. The meusem has a great collection of neolithic and ice-age artifacts from the caves. The cafe was spot-on with a slection of light lunch snacks and drinks ... but the highlight for us was the tour of one of the caves. Our 7YO loved it and many thanks to our tour guide, Simon, who brought the ice-age to life. Really good day out!

Went on the witch marks cave tour on the 5th of September with Simon as our guide.

Beautiful place, fantastic staff.

After turning up on the wrong day (my own fault for not reading the date properly when I booked), the lovely lady on the reception desk managed to change my booking for the following day.
She was extremely helpful and friendly. I had to pay for the new tour and have the tour I'd previously booked refunded - which might I add was the quickest refund I've ever had.

The next day, we arrived for our tour. The same helpful lady from the day before was on the desk again. She not only remember our faces, but our names too - massive customer service points to you! (Sorry I didn't catch your name).

We then went for a wander around the gift shop while we waited for our tour time. Whilst we was browsing our tour guide Simon, came over and introduced himself. He said that he was ready if we wanted to start the tour early so off we went.

Simon was absolutely fantastic with our son. He got down to his level to speak to him, kept calling him by name and even checked he understood everything he was explaining.

During the tour Simon's knowledge about the area really shone through. He welcomed any questions we asked and answered everything he could. His passion for his job was obvious and made the tour that much more enjoyable.

My son is learning about Cave People at school at the moment and this was a fun family day out that gave him chance to see in real life, exactly what he's learning about. If you can make education fun I'm all for it. We all learnt alot from our tour, even Simon when my partner spotted a Cave drawing he'd not seen before. It really is a little gem full of its own discoveries.
