The King of Castles, a fortification has dominated this site since Anglo-Saxon times when it was the capital of the kingdom of Northumbria. The current structure with Keep, curtain walls, towers and ramparts dates from the 1500's to the Victorian restructuring of Lord Armstrong. There are fourteen rooms open to the public including the spectacular Kings Hall, with over 3000 items of artwork, furniture, china and porcelain. The separate Armstrong and Aviation Artifacts museum gives visitors a glimpse into the creativity and industrial genius of Lord Armstrong, with a look at the aviation legacy created by his company after his death. The cafeteria serves great, fresh food and then a wander around the battlements completes a great day out.

Loved our day at Bamburgh Castle, and it was the most of a day, spending 5 hours there, learning about the history of the castle, the local area through conversation with one of the researchers working on the summer dig, and the 1st Lord Armstrong...More

Park in the free car park and walk the 100mtrs. This is a excellent day out. The cafe is well priced with a good menu. The local village is only a few minutes walk and is very quaint.

Huge castle perched on a headland . Visible from miles around. Well worth going inside as big ramparts and collection of military ware, armour etc.

We enjoyed our day out here. The scenery around the site is amazing. The castle is stunning both inside and out. It’s walls and gardens beautiful and well maintained. The staff are knowledgeable and pleasant. Lots of interesting artefacts and displays.

A recommendation when on the Northumberland coast. This and Alnwick are the only 2 that aren't part of the national Trust, but still worth a visit to say youve been. Not only are the views amazing, but a short walk to the beach or into...More

Opens at 10am, with state rooms opening at 11am. There are no gardens as such although the grounds and scenic views are beautiful if the catch the weather right. I hope you really enjoy your visit
