About
The Cheese Box in Whitstable, Kent is a British Cheese Specialist. We are an independent cheese shop offering a specialist British product and service, something unique in Kent. As well as a counter packed full of Kentish & regional cheese, we make our legendary cheeseboxes for gifts & a full wedding cheese cake service. Our cheese is sourced directly from local and further flung cheesemakers, with the occasional helping hand from friendly distant cheesemakers! We are particularly proud to say that we affineur (maturing, ripening & development of cheese) our cheeses with love in order that our customers can appreciate them at their very best! As trained cheesemongers we offer a personal service, guiding you & helping you choose your cheese.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very expensive, 2 slices of cheese for £26.00
Staff very unhelpful
Save your money don’t bother
Better off in Rochester where the cheese room staff are extremely accommodating

Unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.... Terrible attitude from the older lady who clearly has no customer service, totally unorganized and not worth the wait-overpriced and underwhelming

The cheese I bought was delicious.
Unfortunately the customer service was the worst experience I’ve had potentially, ever.
I went in, as a tourist visiting the area and wanted to try some local cheeses. As my partner doesn’t eat cheese and I was only there for 1 night, I explained I only wanted a small piece if possible.
It came to £3. The lady serving me explained how paying by card wouldn’t be worth it for her.. she then asked me if I had the cash, which I searched for, and unfortunately I didn’t. I only had £2, I apologised and she said “really?!”

She went on to explain “if you pay by card the tax man will take half” or something to that effect.
Whilst I understand wholeheartedly the struggles of small businesses, it felt as if me being there was an inconvenience.
I politely apologised and said I would leave the purchase if it was easier for you, to which she said “no just do it now” and set up the card machine. She then went on to lecture me about bringing cash if I returned, and almost tell me off about local businesses and how I need to support them.

Honestly, will never be going back if I return to the area, really uncomfortable experience being told off in front of other customers. Learn some manners, that’s not how you build up a customer base or relationship.

We've made specific trips to buy cheese here during the last few years, but our recent experience will mean that we will not be returning.
The opening times of this shop are haphazard & not accurately publicised, which is very annoying for people who can't just 'pop by' on a regular basis, so we decided to pop in to ask the opening times before eating at a local restaurant.
There is usually a wide selection of cheese, biscuits for cheese & other tempting items, but the day we visited, there was a fairly limited range of cheese, the shelves were virtually empty and there was only one type of biscuits for cheese.
We've never experienced unpleasant service in this shop before but on this occasion, when we entered the shop, the woman serving was moaning about local Whitstable businesses loudly with a customer and the service was not very friendly! Not a great customer experience.
We ended up buying just 2 pieces of cheese (which were very tasty) & a jar of quince, which we accidentally left in the shop, as we couldn't leave quick enough.

Having a party and want an alternative to a sweet confectionery, then why not pay Dawn at The Cheese Box a visit.
An expert Affineur, she will help and guide your cheese choices, offer tasters and ensure that your cheese board, or in this case, cake of cheese, is perfectly balanced and PERFECT!!! Not the first cake of cheese that we’ve bought from here and guessing it won’t be the last. A nice line in cheese selection boxes are also available and make the perfect birthday gift. Speciality crackers and condiments also available in this Aladdin’s cave of a shop.

Need to update various websites on opening hours. Travelled 10 miles after various websites said open, but it wasn’t. As other comments suggest, customer care nil.

Rude staff made us feel very unwelcome. Asked to try a cheese before buying it and the woman behind the counter looked at me like I was mad, despite it being the whole point of the shop. Very disappointing

Awful. Awful. Awful. Not the product. But the care for people spending their very little money nowadays. Arrogant, couldn’t care attitude. Queue waiting to be acknowledged. ‘Anyone waiting for a pre- ordered pick up?’ No. Staff member never to be seen again.
Whilst I agree with shopping local, i expect basic customer care. If you don’t value people, don’t be in the people business

Fabulous cheese shop on Whitstable High Street. We walked past a few times but decided to call in and have a closer look. Brought a couple of cheeses, a fantastic blue and creamy cheddar along with marmalade and chilli jam. It's great to see these little independent shops who offer quality produce. The cheese are beautiful, just wish Whitstable was a bit closer to home for us but will try the delivery service. Must try if you are a cheese fan!!!
