Rude staff/ poor service
Aug 2020
It’s a shame as lovely spot but bar manager was extremely rude and simply had friends round for drinks and sat with them rather than working or offering good service to others

Wasted opportunity in a great location

We visited the Whitstable Brewery Bar this Bank Holiday weekend expecting it to be packed as it is right on the beach with a lovely view. It was quiet and we were going to eat but even ordering a drink a struggle with the very lacklustre service. The staff just cannot be bothered to try because they know they will have customers due to the location so any effort seems to have been deemed unnecessary. It was not busy but the outside tables were covered in rubbish and empty glasses, including plastic cups all over the beach. The ladies toilet was a disgrace, no toilet roll, unclean toilet and discarded paper towels everywhere as the bin was overflowing. There was no shortage of people available to rectify these things but they were busy chatting to each other instead. We decided to eat elsewhere. Such a shame as the location is great but it's just totally lacking in atmosphere or apparent care for customers.

Great view but appalling food & Service

After visiting Whitstable a number of times now I have had fantastic dining experiences here. My Mother was visiting from abroad and we decided to stroll down to the harbour area and came across the Whitstable Brewery Bar. Unfortunately I did not check the reviews…
Considering it was also out of season, the restaurant was not that busy. However only one person taking orders so naturally a queue built up. When we finally got served we were told that we would wait about 40mins, considering that we were a walk away from the town centre we thought that we'll risk it. Big mistake as we waited over an hour with many people going up to the bar to ask when their food will arrive.

We paid good money for a seafood platter and half grilled lobster the latter was completely over cooked and why we had to wait one hour for a seafood platter which obviously consisted of refrigerated seafood lugged on to a plate is a mystery. There was another girl on-call but she was not allowed to take orders only to clean tables - our table was filthy and nobody made any attempt to clean it. Overall just very disappointing experience I hope that management will review how this restaurant is run as the view is superb so it's a real shame that such poor service and quality of food is provided.

Anyone who likes whitstable will know this spot facing the sunset , nearly, and will tell you that on a warm evening sitting at the Brewery bar's beach front is charming. So why would you open this palace of filth to serve huge sloppy oysters and ex-frozen shrimps, with some people who look as if they haven't washed their hair in weeks (not the lovely lady behind the bar). Was it an after thought of the already monopoly ridden town which attracts Londoners by the droves? Or is it really a plan? To top it all after we were served, the staff must diligently come out and unceremoniously dump the oyster shells on the already huge and until then unnoticed heap of used oyster shells they keep by one of the warehouse walls, uncomfortably close to the outdoor seating area. Granted no one come here to sample the art of high culinary delights, but really? Ugh. Is this an attempt at being cool, trendy? Spare me. Positively yuk.the only thing going for it and this is what they should be specialising in is beer and drink. Why not? Lots of different beers from all over the place and stick to snacks. Unless you clear up the mountain of stinking oyster shells. There is no excuse it.

Drawn in by the lovely smelling pizza

We went for a walk along the beach and couldn't resist the setting and aromas coming from the open plan kitchen.

I'm glad we gave it a try, my life enjoyed her crab and the location is superb.

Sadly I didn't get what I ordered, and the Pizza wasn't anywhere near as nice as say a typical Pizza Express offering. Looking at other reviews I guess our experience was not unusual.

The toilets were clean, and it the sea was just 50 feet away. If you like posh frocks you may see guests spilling out onto the beach, as they do weddings next door.

Hit and miss food

You take a chance here. If the manager is there, it is more organised. If she isn't the expect long waits and below par food.
Twice we've had raw pizzas and garlic bread - uncooked and liquid sloppy toppings. Last set if pizzas were very small ( half size of first set we had). I also ordered a pint of prawns and they were frozen into a solid lump.
They do refund which is good but not helpful if you just want decent food!

Chaotic service
May 2014
What a lovely spot in the sunshine and great decor with plenty of space but the staff need training- very amateurish though pleasant, clearly struggling to cope and there was no atmosphere/ no ambient music and such a shame as it a brilliant spot. Lots of hungry people but service was slow, salad was wilted, wine was in plastic cups and warm and all very disappointing. Overcharged for the wine and bread came half way through the meal. Oyster dish was swimming in melted ice water- not very impressed. A shame as it's a lovely spot on the qualm but definitely not worth the money.

Beautiful location right on the beach with the sun shining what a great place for some seafood, how wrong could I be!!

From a selection of about 10 things on the non pizza menu there were no prawns, no crab, and no oysters all basic staples for a seafood restaurant in Whitstable?

Dirt table and collect your own cutlery which isn't explained when you order so you sit there waiting
.
There must be better places to eat seafood!!

Had a great lunch in here, 6 oysters followed by half a lobster. The beer was different but hit the spot. Great service and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back.

Good Ale good location

This bar is all about location and beer. Beyond that you pays your money and you takes your chance because the staff know they are on a winner so if you want to be fawned over - don't come here!
