We are booked to use this service this summer having previously travelled Dover-Dunkirk. After making a booking i was informed by an acquaintance that, due to my age,i would have been entitled to a 20% discount. I then contacted the company who agreed and swiftly made a refund to my account. Superb service in this day and age. Will not hesitate to use this route in the future.

DFDS ask people to check in two hours before departure, but do not start boarding until 30-45 minutes before departure. The facilities in the terminal are basic. We travelled on Cote d'Albatre. The staff were friendly and helpful, except the lady in reception ion the outbound crossing, who seemed to resent being asked to look up from her book to give us information. Breakfast was quite expensive. No domes are provided to keep the food hot, so it is stone cold by the time you have queued for coffee and to pay. Thee ship's interior is tired. Scratched woodwork and reclining seats that don't all recline or have mechanisms missing, Some of the upholstery was cracked and scratched. Disembarking at Dieppe was quick, with the only delay at French immigration due to a computer glitch. The Duty Free shop is full of real bargains and the lady serving in there was wonderful. The return trip, on the same ship, was again blighted by the wait at Dieppe, sitting in the car on a blazing hot afternoon. The terminal facilities are worse than Newhaven. The toilets in the gents, all bar one had the seats missing. The dinner offering on the return was expensive and not inspiring. This crossing is reasonably priced, but it could be a little more expensive so the quality could be improved

I had to take this ferry to newhaven because I was travelling with my dog. This is the only ferry from France to Uk that allow dog if you are on foot passenger. They have 3 cages where they keeps cars as well. I was very worried because my dog is anxious puppy. It was very difficult to leave him in the cage with me going upstairs. He cried a lot. The staff was very nice and friendly. I asked them if I could go and check my dog now and then. I went twice downstairs during the 4 hours journey. When the boat arrived in newhaven they made me go downstairs before everyone else to get my dog safely. He was tired and scared but happy to see me again. I can't say anything bad about this company. They were nice and prepared. The ticket was cheap just 18 pound for the dog and 58 for me. I am very happy with the service that I received. Thank you again.

I have never used this route beforehand but it seemed quite good value. I live quite near Portsmouth but their ferries were much more expensive. Few of us give much thought to the ferry to be honest. The port of Newhaven is very close to the end of the A road but is grotty with limited facilities ( bring a flask ). Waiting is tedious but is the same on most ferries. The crossing was a bearable 4 hours, the ship was fairly clean and the staff were helpful but most of us just want to get off. Getting off was quite slow but that was the French Douanes. There are very few facilities at the port of Dieppe so don't forger your snacks.
I would use again.

If Butlins-on-Sea is your thing, you’ll love this. Not for us. Found the whole experience dreadful. It’s a 4 hour crossing, but with the 2 hours of queuing at each end, it adds extra hours to the crossing, so more like 6-8 hours (we were 6.5 hours). Queues also for food, the loos and to disembark, which was tedious. Sunshine and calm sea conditions would be the only saving grace on this day crossing, as you could sit up on deck, but honestly, when is that ever likely?! Cabins are the only saving grace on the overnight crossing. If none are available, avoid at all cost.

Where as I appreciate that all Ferry companies are under great financial strain at the moment I have to complain about how cold myself and my husband have been on our outward and inward bound trips (inside the ferry). On my return journey to the uk last week I was wearing a thermal vest, two jumpers, thermal sock, boots and a very heavily quilted jacket and I was still very cold! Sorry to moan but it could posdibly be putting a lot of people off of travelling with your ferry company?

The Newhaven-Dieppe ferry is still great way to go to France from the UK—a lazy trip, starting with croissant and a coffee, then a picnic with a beer from the bar, a wander around the deck, friendly staff, a snooze before the slog across France begins. I recommend it. The ferry port itself is another matter.
Another reviewer criticised the wait prior to boarding. In practice you don't have to arrive so early.

If you enjoy queuing, you will love this service... Arrive 2 hours before the ferry as advised, sit in the car with no information about where to Queue... Cars in Front start to move, move forward inch by inch until you reach a booth and a joyless person checks in... then join another Queue with no information. Next 20 minutes before the ferry is supposed to leave, you follow the leader onto the ferry and circle around inside until told to stop. Oh and don't think because you are one of the first on the boat you will be the first off... oh no, sit there in the car for an hour after it has docked waiting to get off!
On board you will find a Bar with a choice of drinks and poor snacks, £3.80 for a Ham and Cheese baguette. Or, you could go to the buffet for overpriced poor quality Hot food. Toilets that are out of order or covered in Vomit! The ferry was freezing inside, oh and don't forget to wear a ridiculous mask to walk around the Ferry but sit down and take it off! When is this circus going to end? Wifi on board is ridiculous, it might be free, but you are restricted to 150mb per crossing and the speed is akin to a Slug on Sand!
It would be fair to say, I will never use this service again. it's no wonder the ferries are still struggling even after all these years after the Chunnel opened.

Very helpful & friendly people on the phone & on the ferry. Easy to change our booking for the return to the UK a few days later to avoid the PCR test in France. OK not as swish & fast as Eurotunnel & the on-ferry duty free is a bit small, but cheaper & who cares, we managed to get enough sleep on the night crossings to continue our journeys & we bought all our wine, spirits & chocolate in France where it's even cheaper! The only bad bit was after leaving Newhaven port, it chucked it down with rain for about 5 minutes but you can;t blame DFDS for that - there's plenty of imbeciles in the UK government that you can blame.

We are travelling in August from Newhaven to Dieppe on the 11pm crossing, are all the facilities open at this time?Cafe, bar & Duty Free etc or are things limited?

Cafe & bar are open for duration of crossing, duty free is open for 30 minutes at start 7 end of crossing but selection is small - we bought booze & food in France before leaving as it's cheaper unless you want top end stuff.

Crossing is 4 hours. loading allow 1hour minimum - 1 hour unloading longer in Newhaven Dieppe is faster in unloading.
Exit route out of Dieppe is excellent. Try and plan to stop close by. You are within 10miles of one of the 10 best B&B's in France. Always our stop as we arrive and leave. Why hurry?!!!!

how do I request an adapted cabi and a wneelchair for my husband please?
We are travelling as football passengers from Newhaven to Dieppe this Friday (30/08/19). Is there somewhere to store luggage for the crossing? Also, it says we have to turn up 90 mins before departure. Can we turn, e.g., 60 mins before departure?
Thanks
Hello
My wife and I are arriving into Dieppe at 21:30 on Friday night as foot passengers, does anyone know if we will be able to get a taxi from the terminal to our hotel?
Many thanks

I was a cycling passenger, so know nothing about taxis, however it’s not that far to walk if in Dieppe itself.

Hello there,
A friend and I have decided to do a day trip from Newhaven to Dieppe to stock up on wine and cheese! We arrive at 14:00 and go back at 18:00 as foot passengers. It says we have to check in 90 minutes before the journey! We were only told this on receiving our booking confirmation. Is this true or do you reckon 45 minutes would be OK?
Thanks for any advice!

Hello Geraldine.
The staff at Dieppe are very helpful and they speak good English, if you just drop in when you come off the ferry and let them know you'll be arriving 45 minutes before sailing they put a note to the boarding staff.
By the way if you're retired and telephone them direct you'll receive a discount on your fare, this discount is not available if you book via the DFDS website.
