I booked this tour and almost cancelled it since I fell ill a day before the tour. However I decided not to and just proceed with the trip. The hike was a bit rough that day due to the strong wind and slippery roads but...More
If you are wanting to go to Longyearbyen and have a great time, then do yourself a favour and book activities with this company owned by Thomas Risch. It’s always hard to know what companies to book with when you read various descriptions on line....More
A walking trip in the dark in the snow is something quite different to anything one normally experiences. Experienced and likeable guide with huskies telling the group local stories of bear hunts; having hot chocolate in an authentic tent in the middle of nowhere... Came...More

We had a trip together with Max. He did an amazing job and gudied us safe over the glacier and around Longyearbyen. Also told us many interesting stories and showed us the stunning nature. Great experience! And nice dog, you had with you! ;-)
The entire experience was exceptional. Our airport transfer was very smooth. Misha, aside from being a knowledgeable and kind person, was an amazing guide. Our familiarization tour was informative both for getting a lay of the land, but also for understanding the lifestyle of Svalbard...More

I am not sure I understood you correctly - are you actually planning dog sledding for 70-year olds? It is extremely hard and taxing. I talked to a strong and fit 27yearold woman who said she was totally exhausted and chilled to the bone after standing up all day on the dog sled and she told US not to do it!

It has to be the winter to see the aurora. You also should have a New Moon - definitely not a Full one! That means the ideal time is about a week out of every month. We were told the end of February is one of the best times to go there, because the sun is just beginning to come out during the daytime again. This makes for more interesting views if you go snowmobiling or dog sledding (you can go in the dark, but . . . ). Finally, we've heard that you're more likely to see polar bears in the summer, by the water's edge (though I can't personally confirm this). This means you need to take some kind of boat trip. Sounds like you might have to do more than one trip! But why not - we intend to go back!
