Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I recently had an overnight stay in Maleny as I was hoping to see a platypus. The boardwalk was quite pleasant, but a little confusing. If you start from the Showgrounds, it runs alongside the creek behind where the camping area is. It runs towards town, but pops out onto the road well before you get to the park, then starts again across the road down near the post office but from here it is more of a broad pathway than a boardwalk.
Apparently you can potentially see platypus anywhere along the creek, but there were three main areas where they seem to be easier to find. One is at the main viewing platform, one is at the little platform on Coral St, and the other is from the road bridge hear the Showgrounds.
I was lucky enough to see platypus at all three locations, but then I got extra-lucky and met the Platypus Whisperer (look him up on Facebook). He runs tours, and takes beautiful photos, and is very knowledgeable. He was very generous with his time and knowledge, so I imagine his tours would be very interesting.

The walk is OK but really quite boring. The boardwalk is part of the decking of commercial properties and the creek is quite grubby. The walk follows a bland concrete path with numerous rocks with signs along the way.
Mind you the walk is a good way to take a pause from Maleny which is now little more than a large car park with shops at either side of the car park. Just way too many cars and one inches one's way through Maleny in a que of traffic.

Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed the Obi Boardwalk, but I really don't think it's worth a 4 1/2 star rating.
You really need to keep an eye open for the signs and if you aren't paying attention you're gonna drive straight past it as we did.
When we found it it was a lovely pleasant walk, but overall it was a little average.
Go see for yourself, it doesn't take much time out of your day.

Dawn and dusk are the best times to see this incredible creature. They are very shy and we were lucky enough to see one in the wild. The walk is peaceful and interesting so a delight on it's own. Some interesting sculptures along the way by local artists. Not a long walk either and easy going. Disabled access is good.

It was a bit cold an drizzle, but a nice short easy walk. A little hard to find also. Apparently others have seen platypus but we were not so lucky. Obviously well used by locals and tourists which is good to see.

We did the full circuit, around the golf course, just over 7km. Was an awesome walk, you have open areas then shaded by huge trees. Some of the path is concreted, some road, some dirt. We did see a little brown snake around 2 feet long on the eastern side just before exciting the scrub.

A pretty walk through replanted native rainforest along the week. Part of the walk is boardwalk, partially paved. Information boards along the way. The suggested 1-2 hours is very misleading. My husband and I strolled through here in 15 minutes including reading all the information boards and taking photos. There is a bench midway for stopping to look for platypus. None seen on our trip.

This walk starts at the showgrounds but can also be started on the boardwalk between the little shopping centre and Woolworths.
A lot of news trees and shrubs have been planted but the highlight is the bend in the Obi River where you can spot the Platypuses... if you are lucky.
We were here in the late afternoon and spotted one swimming around and feeding.

A hidden gem running along Obi Obi Creek. To be frank, most of the walk is concrete rather than just "boards", but the creek is interesting (see if you can spot a platypus!) and well shaded by many types of trees. A pleasant stroll right next to the heart of Maleny!

This was an unexpected treat and a highlight of our weekend. From the helpful reviews we walked along the boardwalk next to the small shopping centre next to the Woolworths. Apparently you can see platypus at this spot, but we walked along the concrete section. This has been extended right up to the road and a large shed with a gun carriage outside. Keep walking along the grassed path/ track to the platypus observation deck. We were there at 16:00-17:30hrs at dusk. A pair of platypus delighted us and were very active. It was great. There was plenty of bird like too, but the platypus were very special. Something you see very rarely.
