Seen from the Kuranda Scenic Railway Station
Aug 2021
I seem to view the Barron Falls only in a dry season when there's minimal water flowing. They must be spectacular in the wet. Being of the unadventurous type, my views have mainly been from the platform of the stop on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, although there's a different perspective from the Skyrail.

Pleasant Enough

Nice rainforest walk from Kuranda down to the falls lookout. Worth a look in the dry season; I suspect spectacular in the wet. About 2-hour round trip.

Quite nice to see, view from Skyrail is better than from Kuranda
May 2021
As I was there at the edge of the dry season, the falls were not as large as I was told they can be in the wet season, but was still nice to see. Apparently there is a hike that takes you down closer to the falls but I didn't have the time to walk for hours, so we drove to the walkway about 3km outside Kuranda town to the lookout, and then a few hours later catching the Skyrail I was able to stop halfway and get out with a much more spectacular lookout, definitely the better option to see the falls. Although I've heard the view from the Kuranda train is nice too.

Excellent. Spectacular

We did a self drive to Barron Falls and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The scenery was astounding and the falls were quite heavy when we were there in May.

Fabulous places for a picnic with lots of toilets and picnic tables.

A lovely, lovely walk across the top of the rainforest on a raised platform down to the railway station where we sat and enjoyed a picnic lunch overlooking Barron Falls.

The walk was not arduous.

Not to be missed!
May 2021
We saw the Barron Falls from both a stopover from the Skyrail and again when travelling back to Cairns on the train. The train actually stopped at one of the best viewing areas to do this. The Falls are one of the highlights of going up to Kuranda and the tableland outside Cairns. It had not rained for the week and a half prior to us going but the Falls were still just spectacular and this from the many viewing points on this trip to Kuranda. Highly recommend doing the Skyrail and Train trip to Kuranda with seeing the Barron Falls with that a trip not to be missed.

Excellent day trip to see Barron falls
Apr 2021
Barron Falls were overflowing and we had a view from the bottom (on the train) and a top view (on the Skyrail). Would highly recommend as a ‘To do’ if you visit Cairns

The one with the flowing falls (finally!) 🌊

Turned out to be a perfect time to see the falls! There’s been a bit of rain in Cairns the last few days so Barron Falls has actually got a little ‘fall’ — so beautiful to see the water escaping over the top and powering down full speed. Usually when I’m here the falls are pretty dry, so it’s been awesome to see it with a little rapid. Lots of people doing the falls rainforest walk solo and with their families. A few butterflies around as well as the little scrub turkeys. Be careful on your drive to Barron Falls and Kuranda area as there are a lot of cassowary crossings and we need to make sure we keep those magnificent birds safe and protected. Happy hiking!

Best in the wet season
Apr 2021
It is easy to imagine that the falls are quite spectacular at the height of the wet season but when we were there at the end of the season they were not so special. However, the views of the falls, the rugged rocks over which they plunge and the surrounding rain forest are certainly worth the visit.

We drove from Port Douglas to Barron Gorge Falls, the drive itself is absolutley amazing.
It was raining when we were on tge way to the falls. Coming from SA, i have never seen so much rain in my life. We walked to main viewing platform just a short walk from the carpark, took a couple photos, then the rain started to pour down, we decided to do the walk through the rainforest, all on elevated platforms.
Its a really nice walk, it was picture perfect everywhere you looked.
My phone got so wet it stopped working, couldnt take any pics on the way, or at the bottom viewing area, but it was amazing.
Highly reccomend bringing a poncho or umbrella if you visit Cairns.
Coming from SA, we get 400mm rain in a year, but we had 460mm of rain in 3 days here. Glad we got to see the wet tropics in a rain event, and we went to the Falls on monday the 19th,
On the 20th, it would have been even better.
Amazing experience.
