Built between 1908-1930 this church is the masterpiece of Sir Ninian Comper, a no expense spared building that makes one's jaw drop upon entering the building, with its sumptuously gilded furnishings and exquisitely decorated ceiling. This church is a real treasure and should not be missed! Access however is a little tricky as the church is kept locked outside services. There are keyholders listed in the adjoining courtyard apartments (29 & 30 St Mary's Paddock) but one of these was out and the other was just about to be, so was reluctant to part with the key. In the end I phoned the churchwarden also listed and she very kindly appeared shortly afterwards and was great company, letting me take all the photos and time I wanted. She also unlocked some of the gates into the main sanctuary and the chapels either side, enabling me to get far more out of my visit. It would be easier if planning a visit to get in touch with the church first to arrange a time when someone will be available to unlock, it will be well worth the extra effort!…
