Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very cool little historical site. It was a reenactment weekend so there were people cooking, making tools, & making rounds inside the fort. Little bit of hiking behind the fort & a cute little gift shop to stop in as well.

I simply could not say enough the enough wonderful things about this place. All of the staff were extremely friendly and very knowledgeable, You could tell that they truly enjoyed their jobs. There is a small museum and there is a tour to see inside of the fort. The day that I was there my guide was absolutely amazing. The 1st thing that he told us before we walked into the Fort was feel free to walk around touch anything anything or even try out the furniture everything is a perfect replica of what it would have been like at that time in history. The amount of detail put into the accuracy inside the Fort you would have thought that that this Fort was built by Disney. And I'm talking even very small details calls I discovered accurate to the time graffiti over by the bunks of the enlisted soldiers. This very small detail went unnoticed by anyone else in our group but I raised my hand and showed it to the group small details like this is what Historical locations like this come alive. Feel free to bring your family and your small children as (long as they are well behaved) because they can literally walk around and touch whatever they want to touch.

Nice site to visit. I haven't been there, other than driving by, since they completely rebuilt the fort. It's a site to see, gun ports and all. Within 40 yards there are picnic tables, weather permitting. When I was inside a volunteer told me about the history of the fort, showed me arrow heads.. and I forget what else there was. The site is supported by the community. I'll bet kids would enjoy it, and there are woods and a trail near the picnic tables. Leave a few dollars donation if you can..!

Fort Dobbs was an amazing experience the tour guide was awesome. This was the fist museum that I've been to that let's you touch everything. It was very hands on. The tour guide even demonstrated how to shot a musket which was very cool and vey loud. The experience as a whole was jaw dropping. Our tour guide Scott was very kind and funny he was able to answer any questions we had very detailed and thorough. He shared many interesting stories. Over all i loved going there and definitely recommend for you to visit

This was one of the best field trips we have ever taken! We paid the small fee for the guided tour, and I am so glad we did. Jason was so informative and knowledgeable about the entire fort and history during that time. He really brought history to life!! I would definitely encourage everyone to go see and hear this fascinating piece of history!

My husband and I were blown away by our visit to Fort Dobbs. The staff are amazingly knowledgable and encourage lots of questions. Take the tour to see inside the blockade and learn all about the history of the fort and those times. The detail of the exhibits and the staff in costume help to really envisage those times and what it would have been like to have been stationed there, or live in the surrounding area.
Don't miss out on this great experience. And whilst there also visit nearby Statesville, a very walkable town with coffee shops, restaurants and much more besides

I wasn’t expecting much. But WOW! Full rebuild of the 300 year old fort with an amazing tour guide in
Period clothing. I learned so much and greatly appreciate his patience with questions.
You get to touch everything; and it’s fully furnished in period military fort stuff. I laid on the beds (officers beds stuffed with feathers are far more comfy than the straw filled), scooped gunpowder, and “shot” a swivel gun in the firing port.
We also bought cool writing kits with quill pens, ink and authentic paper for the grandkids in the gift shop. Probably the best attraction in the area ❤️

I'm a history buff and I have visited many forts around the world. Fort Dobbs is truly different from anything I've experienced before. Most wooden forts are log houses inside a wooden or earthen wall, but this wooden fort is incredible considering the time period when it was originally built. The tour is excellent and covers a lot of details of construction and life in the fort. This historic site is truly worthwhile to visit. Take your time and take many pictures. North Carolina has done well restoring this piece of history. Kudos!

This place was so interesting if you like history. There is not much to walk around and see but the people who work there have a great deal of knowledge. It is a monument to a time that was significant in our history but receives little attention.

My family and I were travelling back to MA when we decided to make a quick stop, saw the sign just off the exit and decided to investigate. We came upon the entrance sign and could see the fort perched up on the hill, it seemed very cool and exceeded our expectations. We ventured into the visitor center first, which contained knowledge of the site (including artifacts) with a small gift shop. We were met by a young man in period outfit who was extremely knowledgeable and very personable - you could tell right off the bat he loved what he was doing. He gave us a really short and concise history of the site along with some neat facts and shared a bit of living history of the artifacts and buildings including a tour of the recreated colonial cabin. This is a gem of a place to check out, it's a living history museum that consists of outdoor and some indoor, but certainly worth stopping by if you're in the area.

There's also a pavilion that's available for larger groups. I would assume that you can bring a pet to the outside areas, but it would be best to contact the park staff to be sure.
