We visited at the end of the dry season so the water was concentrated around the bird hide. In the relatively small pool (compared to the area which obviously floods during the wet season), there were easily >100 birds of many different species.
Don't miss seeing the sunset over the lagoon, whether you are a bird watcher or not! This is a magic place with abundant water birds. The track is a little rough from the main road but can be easily managed without 4WD.

though still in the rainy season, making some roads impassible, we rented a 4 wheel drive Mitsubishi, which served us well in the Billabong. A cacaphony of sound, with an endless stretch of waterlilies in bloom, and bird movement everywhere. 16 kms. from Wyndham.
