Not far from the West Kimberley Prison is the Boab Prison Tree, a place they use to hold indigenous prisoners on their way to jail in the 1800s. The tree is fenced off so you can’t go inside but the history of the tree &...More

One of the easiest access attractions on the Highway into Derby. Just a short distance off the road finds you at the Prison Tree. With lots of interpretive boards to read on the history of the area. A must see.

Enjoyed our trip out to the tree. Easy to get to and interesting swimming pool built during WW2. History very well shown on the info boards.

The tree has a sorry history but a visit is worthwhile to help understand the history of the tree and it’s significance to the local community

Incredible sight for passing travellers - revealing some of the harsh facts about a bygone era. Interesting venue for all passers by. Natural phenomenon.

The Prison Tree is just off the highest and worth a stop. At over 1000 years of age, the tree was used as a prison in the early days. There are information boards there which give additional information on the area.

Great little attraction with some history attached. Be careful on the road in, when I visited most of the track was washed away with large cracks and crevices.

Due to a very wet, wet season the road is still a bit damaged but only a short distance off the main road. Definitely worth the effort.
