- Lisa PWoodridge, Illinois655 contributionsGlad it was FREEI wish they had a "good" rating. I rated it very good for one reason - it is free to get in. Coming from the Science museum in Chicago the NC is very small and limited hands on attractions. BUT what I was VERY disappointed in was paying $16.00 per person for the private viewing room of The Deep exhibit. What a waste of money!!! I was so excited to check it out and even took some time off work while I was in town. Only to discover it was 1 room. Filled with a "few" props. The only thing of any interest was the few short movies they had running on a loop. It was NOT worth that money at all. $5.00 at best. Very disappointing.Visited March 2023Written 17 March 2023
- Michele S10 contributionsFabulous Free Family FunVery well planned museum and the layout is fantastic. I can't believe this is a free activity. The 3D movie was nice (about 30 minutes). I would say this is an afternoon long activity and is well worth the visit.Visited June 2023Written 15 June 2023
- wevisitplaces38 contributionsAbsolutely spectacularI could not recommend this more. It’s enormous - far bigger than it looks from the outside- with exhibit after exhibit that our kids loved. There was a ton of interactive stuff for kids and all the exhibits were interesting and very well done. We had a great time and couldn’t believe it was funded only by donationsVisited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 June 2023
- Lion Holdings4 contributionsA hidden gem for science nerds and nature lovers! The sheer variety of exhibits, from the colossal T. rex to the mesmerizing dioramas of local ecosystems, kept me captivated for hours. It's not just about static displays; there are live animals, interactive displays, and knowledgeable staff who are passionate about their subjects. But what really stands out is the impressive commitment to education and conservation. It's not just a museum; it's a place that sparks your curiosity and love for the natural world.Visited November 2022Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023
- Katie GOrlando, Florida14 contributionsGreat Local and Free AttractionHighly recommend for adults and kids! There was so much to see and we liked there was a lot of North Carolina specific facts and artifacts. The muesem was free and way bigger than expected. We spent hours here and are going to return to see what we missed. They had a lot of interactive features too that we enjoyed.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 October 2023
- Finn D4 contributionsA must-visit museum!I recently visited, and it blew my mind. The museum's exhibits are not just informative but also incredibly engaging. And the best part? It's free! Yep, you heard me right. You can explore all this amazingness without spending a dime. So, if you're ever in North Carolina, do yourself a favor and check out this museum. You won't regret it!Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 13 November 2023
- SteelCity13Austin, Texas893 contributionsGreat free Museum that children and adults can both enjoyThis place is great! We went on our first trip to raleigh and went with to the museum with friends. First of all the place is free! So why not. There is a parking garage attached to it that doesnt make you pay on the weekends. The is so much for the kids to touch and see and learn and we didnt even do all the floors. One thing not to miss is the science experiments. The professor did an amazing job at keeping the kids interested and showing them science can be fun. We saw circuits, hot air balloons and explosions. This place is a great place to spend some timeVisited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 November 2023

The museum has lots to see and wonderful special exhibits. I loved taking my children when they were younger. It is easy to get to and parking is close by.

Our children and grandchildren enjoyed the museum very much. First of all, we were surprised to learn that it was entirely free! The four floors are packed with interesting exhibits, including a very nice butterfly habitat. While we were there, we also attended a nature lecture with live animals that the children were allowed to pet.

We had time to kill before heading to the Raleigh-Durham airport so my husband, 16-year old daughter and I decided to see the museum of natural sciences. We were so glad we did and I wish we would have had more time. We got to spend about an hour and 45 minutes there and had to go through pretty fast. It really is worth the visit and the main part of the museum is free. We did not have time for the special exhibit or 3D movie. I really liked the displays about marine life of the area, the live animal and fish displays and the prehistoric displays. I think this would be very good for families with young children...lots of hands on stuff too.

We decided to come here while in the area at Falls Lake recreational state park camping in our RV on our way to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Awesome place. Lots of floors with things to do and things to see which is awesome. Fun for families with kids of all ages. I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area. It is a good way to stay out of the heat. Got ice cream after. Great day!

I have been to this museum for quite some years and everytime I go back it feels like the 1st time. My favorite part of the museum is going to research the different types of insects and reptiles which is a lot of fun.

Call me spoiled but this museum lacks the flair, size, organization, and draw of similar size collections throughout the US and Europe. Too much emphasis is placed on the antebellum and reconstruction eras and much of what the museum should be exhibiting, natural history is overlooked. Maybe for a younger child who hasn't been exposed to this type of exhibit this will suffice but I'll not subject my out-of-town visitors to this farce again.

My grandchildren and I visit the museum at least two times a month. We always seem to find something new and fascinating. The children's room is always a hit. Or, just walk across the "bridge" and visit the café for a quick, delicious, inexpensive meal. I highly recommend - with or without children!

According to J Albert Erwin, head of Member and Visitor services, both museum locations in Raleigh have coat racks in their lobbies but they are not secured. "Items left there are left at the owners risk and discretion ". I hope this helps

You are not allowed to eat your home-brought food in the museum. However, you are allowed to bring your food and eat it on the outdoor Bicentennial Plaza. They have a cafe where you can purchase meals.

If you see all 3 floors in both buildings it will take 2-3 hours if you push it. Could take longer if you see a movie or one of the special exhibits. I always plan for half a day. The cafeteria serves pretty good sandwich and snack food. Hope you enjoy your trip there.
