We like it because it is nice and wide and not too crowded. The sand is hard packed but my kids like that because there isn't a lot of sharp shells and other debris that hurt their feet. It is family and dog friendly.

Recently visited Oak Island- I am a former resident for 10+ years. Pleased to see that the beaches remain clean, uncrowded (just a normal crowd for summer- not the wall-to-wall people seen at other beach areas). There are access points with public parking, and several...More

Absolutely love this beach! It's very clean and not super crowded. Plus there are tons of public access parking areas to park. We will definitely be back next year!

If you want to relax with your family and have a good old fashion family vacation, this is the place to visit. We have gone here since the 80’s and love the fact that all the things we love never change.

I loved the views and the fact that the beach was not crowded with people on top of each other like other Carolina beaches. What wasn’t so fun is the steep drop off into the water at basically any tide level. There were also large...More

Beaches were soft and user-friendly.. Gentle, warm, "swimmable" ocean - with waves that don't knock you over. Oak Island is about an hour north of Myrtle Beach and an hour south of Wilmington, so there are easy day trips within striking distance. Many good restaurants...More
