Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a good place to visit when you stop at the Oconaluftee visitor center though I would encourage visiting in the morning if possible before it gets too hot. The site includes the house, a barn, a corn crib, a sorghum press, a blacksmith shop, various other small farm buildings and a small, fenced apple orchard. The walk to enter is close to the river.

Historical farm village with a nice river trail nearby. Elk are often seen in the area, as well. Adjacent to one of the GSMNP visitor centers.

Enjoyed visiting here, enlightening us as to how the farmers operated back in the day. Interesting to read all about it in the Visitors' Centre first, and then see the buildings themselves afterwards.

My wife & I recently visited the museum. It is located just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on US 441 in a beautiful meadow adjacent to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. Here you have the opportunity to step back in time and learn how families lived in the mountains 100 years ago. The museum includes a farmstead consisting of multiple structures preserved from the previous century including a log farmhouse, blacksmith shop, apple house, spring house, and a barn. It was a beautiful day & we enjoyed our time here. Open daily. Park Rangers on site. Restrooms on site. Pet friendly. FYI… Ample parking however parking is sometimes challenging during the busy fall season (leaves were beautiful). When we visited the parking was completely full with cars also parked on the sides of the entrance road.

Great place to visit, we were worried that we weren’t going to see any Elks because we arrived at 1:30pm, but to our pleasant surprise there were many around the river and at the farm. Some were close for you to take great pictures. The rangers were very friendly and when they saw an Elk approaching us, they helped us handle the situation correctly. We also got to see the calves crossing the street with their mothers and enjoyed taking pictures by the river.

This is a worthwhile visit if you are already headed to the Great Smoky Mountain NP since it is free. There was some information given but overall I thought the buildings were somewhat thrown together and the fields were overgrown. Go early because there is limited shade. The parking lot does fill up. Do take the adjacent river hike for some serene views and a chance to spot elk!

We went around 10am. This is a walk-thru at your own pace exhibit. Greatly preserved from over 100 years ago. We also saw elk which was a bonus.

The Mountain Farm Museum is a grouping of preserved log buildings. Admission is free. You can roam the grounds at your own pace. I read every sign and historical placard. I tried to imagine how the machinery was used to sustain everyday life.

Where is this located exactly. Like how would you get to Mountain farm museum from Gatlinburg

The museum is at the Oconaluftee Visitors Center at the southern entrance to the Smoky Mountain National Park on Hwy 441, just a couple miles north of Cherokee, NC and about a half mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Make sure you also take in the Native American culture and history that Cherokee proudly shares with it's visitors. It's a nice change of pace from the "commercial" feel of Gatlinburg and the drive through the National Forest is to not be missed. Hey, take a drive on the Parkway too! Beautiful. Enjoy!

It's only a few minutes from Cherokee. However, if you're staying on the other side of the mountains (Gatlinburg) it's not worth the drive unless you're going to do other things over on that side. We stayed in Cherokee, and I will say the day we spend on the Blue Ridge Parkway and seeing the couple of museums was the highlight of our trip.
