Fred ad Gaye are lovely people with a fantastic place! The camp grounds are like nothing I have seen for the price. Free Hot showers and full kitchen facilities! There are so many animals, and they are all around, amazing to wake up with all of the sounds in the background. Always something to do around the park, or go for a swim at the water hole just up the road. Quick trip into town for anything you might need, and they are always willing to give advice on a good restaurant.

The cabin was great too, so much room and an private bathroom changed the camping experience for us. The B&B is great as well, again Gaye and Fred couldn't have been more accommodating.

Awesome place for the kids, a cute little cafe in the middle of the park with some yummy hot donuts :-)

A unique camping experince, and an awesome animal park. Everything is so friendly and always out on display.

Highly recommend checking this place out!

I loved coming to this place to see the birds and animals. They are tame and happy. Loved seeing the rescued animals also. I got to hold a baby hedgehog . I want one for a pet. I really miss the owners and the place.

Awesome place
Awesome place to visit. Birds are wonderful and nibble little treats from your hand, the eel is a delight. Watch out for the very naughty goat! Owners also run a bird rescue unit. Visited a number of times over the years and will continue to do so. Great place!

Awesome Camping Holiday

We stayed at the Mill Creek Camping ground for 12 days and had a fantastic time. Jessica (7) became the unofficial camp tour guide and took all newcomers on a guided tour of all the animals and birds which she visited at least twice a day. The facilities were excellent and the bathrooms were cleaned and serviced daily, very impressive!
We loved swimming in the river and had many bbqs, met lots of lovely people, and took away memories to last a lifetime but, I'm sure we will be back.
Gaye and Fred are lovely people and I don't know how they do everything they do, even making cakes and teas at the park! ASTOUNDING!
Very reasonable rates as well !!!!

Mill creek bird and animal encounters and campsite
Feb 2014 • Family
This is truly a must visit on the coromandel peninsula. The owners are amazing and it is obvious that they really look after all their animals extremely well. We stayed at the campsite with very good rates, much better facilities than other sites in the area and very clean. The showers were the best I've had in all the sites we've visited in New Zealand. There is a watering hole nearby and the beaches are a short drive away. My 3 year old really enjoyed touching the animals and feeding the birds. He was amazed that there are birds that really talk. Dont miss this amazing place.

An amazing experience for everyone

A great park with lots of incredibly well looked after animals. Kids (or those who are young at heart) will love the miniature train ride and play ground and kids get to ride on the adorable miniature ponies with adorable names like Muffin and Cupcake and Bagels who are so adorable you will never be the same again. If you go now you can see Muffin's foal, Toffeepops who is such a teeny darling and is the most precious little thing!!! Then there are three really sweet donkeys with the softest noses like velvet. They are just so, so sweet. I haven't even started on the birds!!! There are lots of those. Check out the pheasants, macaws, cockatiels, budgies, red collar lorikeets, chickens, doves, corellas, moreporks and so many others including rainbow lorikets which have a walk in aviary!!! If you hold out feed they will come and sit on you. If you let them, you will probably have half a dozen birds on you. Watch out for Charlie the uber friendly lorikeets who loves to cuddle even if you don't have food. She will sit on your shoulder and rub her face against you. Mill creek park is also a bird rescue sanctuary so check out the hawks practicing flying! There are also reptiles and pigs and a bunny and guinea pigs and eels (feed these!) and axolotls and SO MUCH MORE!!! In conclusion YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY NEED TO VISIT MILL CREEK PARK!!!

This place was truly awesome! I spent two weeks here and it was one of the best moment in my life. You got to meet a lot of animals, which they are all friendly, you can play with them and even feed them from your hand. The bird park was simply amazing! The birds were beautiful and looked after really well. I have to admit I've fallen in love with some of the birds! :) Kids can come along with no problems at all, they can play with the friendly birds and animals there. Not to mention, get a cool train ride! In addition with the hospitality that you get from the owners, Fred and Gaye, you will truly enjoy your visit. All in all, the beauty of this place can't be captured by words. Definitely worth a visit!!!
