We went from Whitianga to my favourite dive destination - The Aldermen Islands. Darrell made sure he found the most sheltered and clearest spot for our dives and visibility was great. As for the fish life, we saw so many pink and blue maomao, demoiselles, leatherjackets, wrasse…and mini caverns, rays, eels, soft corals, nudibranchs. Dive Zone takes such good care of everyone on board and gave us a tour of the islands by boat while searching for the perfect dive for the day.

One of the best dives I’ve done in NZ. Dolphins, a turtle and HEAPS of fish. We had perfect conditions, the skipper found the best spots and the team were both super professional and fun! Would definitely go again!

Fun relaxing vibe on this dive trip. Very personal and the staff are very supportive. I am a nervous beginner diver and my guide Ailsa was an excellent guide supporting me and working to create amazing opportunity for me to see as much marine life as possible. Crew was fun and knowledgeable . Got extra boat trip to visit cathedral cove. Again, relaxed vibe which made it perfect for me! Thanks.

2 dives totally not worth it ! Wrong sites, fishing dive sites and not marine life dive sites, no services, equipment insufficient... One of the most expensive dives I've done (225$ for 2 dives with gear) to see algaes and sand, to pick up crayfishes and scallops !!!
I'll explain... :
1. Wrong sites ! I planned to dive in Alderman Islands and the dive center told me they are going on Friday. So I waited 1 week for theses dives. In Thursday night, I get confirmed we are going to Alderman Islands... And the instructor confirmed another time on the boat. But I quickly saw we were going another direction, one week waiting for a lie !
2. Sites not worth it at all! They bring us to Humbug Bay which is nothing to see, sorry a lot of algaes and urchins ! And Opito bay which is a sandy floor with scallops. Well I clearly said I would like to see marine life And not going fishing and I get send to fishing dive sites for crayfishes and scallops !! So disappointing when you know you have a marine reserve just in a corner !
3. No services ! Just I have 44 dives, but the first dive center ever do not give you any water, hot drinks, snacks on the boat between dives ! (No toilets on board too.)
4. Equipment insufficient ! We are in cold water 16 degrees and they didn't give you hood and gloves... You have to ask but when you don't know the dive conditions...
So if you are happy to meet fishermen "Get into it"... if you want discover nature just Go away!

Well that's a pretty horrible review and a total first for us as we pride ourselves on the diving we do and the service we provide. But we just have to make some comments to this. The trip was going to be a run to the Aldermen Islands but as you were well aware, the weather made this not possible with a 40 knot wind blowing that day. All were advised of this prior to the trip departure and you had the opportunity to choose not to go prior to the trip. We are not that silly to think our customers wouldn't know if they were diving at the Aldermens or not. We are not in the habit of lying and find that statement offensive. We dived in the best locations available to us for shelter on that day, given the weather conditions.
Fishing - given that it was just before Xmas the second dive allowed everyone to catch themselves some of our delicious (and expensive to buy) scallops. Everyone else was delighted for that opportunity.
Cost - most would think that $225 for a two dive boat trip with your own personal Instructor - which you had - would be cheap.
Services - we are a small boat but we always have hot thermos tea/coffee/soups on board and there was on that day.
Hooded vests are normally provided but I understand that yours were missed and for that we apologise.
May we suggest that in future you make sure you are listening to the advice of the Instructor as to what is going to be happening and you communicate your needs at the time so you don't end up disappointed.

Great friendly staff at Dive Zone Whitianga who all went above and beyond to help me out with my diving questions and queries on my holiday around the coromandel. I would highly recommend Dive Zone to anyone who dives or is interested in giving it a go! My dive trip around the coromandel was nothing short of magical, even lucky enough to stop and watch the Dolphins. Can not wait to come back with my family and experience the magic and tranquility again. Thank you Dive Zone Whitianga- #lifechanging

Planning on diving in Mercury Bay, we needed flippers, masks, etc, as they are too heavy to pack when flying from Sydney, Aus.
The staff in this shop really know how to find you the very best equipment & know exactly what fits & what safety gear is best for your situation. We certainly left kitted out with the very best!
And we managed to provide ourselves with several meals of crayfish, scallops & fish, caught using our gear from Dive Zone. The waters of Mercury Bay are clear, clean & teaming with life. You just need the right gear & your dive will be an experience to remember!
But if active water sports aren't your thing, catch one of the many cruises leaving Whitianga. Just ask at the dive shop & if you want a dive experience, be guided by their recommendation!

Coromandel diving is under the shadow of Poor Knights or Bay of Islands for quite some time. But after I try diving there I found that this area is just as good as Poor Knights and pretty much comparable with Bay of Islands.
Divezone is doing a great job delivering quality service to divers, their workflow is efficient, the staff is friendly and professional. Especially DM Joshua I dived with for few days. Attentive, helpful, and follows guest request...Hes got all it takes to be a divepro!

I did my open water and advanced certification with Dive Zone Whitianga in May 2016 and had a blast learning to get comfortable and safe under water. my instructor Elise
was excellent throughout and really got me hooked on scuba diving! Elise has been very engaged in providing a course for me to learn to be a safe diver.
It's a fantastic place to go diving or snorkeling with - the equipment is solid and in good shape and the people work very professionally - besides being awesome to hang out with! Would certainly recommend to anyone interested in getting into the beautiful waters of the Coromandel peninsular.

Hello, I can swim but do not have any experience doing scuba diving. Is it available for beginners as well?
Written 7 July 2018
Hi Ayush, Sorry for taking so long to reply but I missed seeing your question somehow. We offer full PADI Open Water courses (learn to dive) all year round. The cost is $550 and includes all equipment you need to use for the weekend that you would do your course over. It also includes the theory component which you would do on-line prior to coming to us to do your physical training. Alternatively, we can do a "try dive" with an Instructor which would cost $320 or a pool session with an Instructor for $100. If you want further info please email our store
Regards
Linda Bird
