We go to Whitianga often as we have a holiday home there. It has grown a lot and there are many attractions in the town and leaving from the town. There are some large grocery and general stores in town and the petrol is cheaper than it is in Auckland.

The playground is fun for kids, ours definitely enjoyed it when we took them last. This time we discovered a little gem for little girls.... a fairy house. Its on the beach, see if you can find it.

This beach is lovely and a favourite of ours when in Whitianga. Good reasonable swimming in summer, quite popular with travellers and locals.

We often stay at one end of the beach at a Freedom Camping site in our motorhome.

Lovely spot.

Although it was raining and for the most part we just sat in the car and ate our lunch looking at what we could see of the view, we could see enough from that) and our brief walk during a drier spell) that it would be a great beach to spend some time. There's plenty of parking, including for overnight vehicles, what a great place!

Tuia 250 was a celebration of Cooks arrival in New Zealand and the Polynesian migration in Waka in the 13th century of Maori.

A re-enactment of Cooks visit to Wharekao (Simpson’s Beach) which began with a Powhiri (Welcome) was held at the Marae at the far end of the beach.

This is a very safe beach, great for walks, fishing or swimming.

There is a large parking area at Kouatunu end of the beach for caravans and campervans. One of the most beautiful places to park.

There are toilets approximately half way down the beach with car parking.

Beautiful views of Mercury Bay.

Safe little bay for families with young children. Walk over river to the rocks. Fishing and easy for boats to launch.

Just an awesome place to park if you have a fully self contained motorhome or caravan. Been coming here for many years now so enjoy it while you can as it won’t be there forever.

We have a Campervan and since we discovered the place we could park up and stay at Simpson's Beach (at the North end of the beach) we have returned many times. From here we can kayak across to Cooks Beach (check the weather forecast first) go fishing, swimming at the safe beach, walk on the beach or use our bikes to cycle over the hill to Whitianga. A very relaxing place to stay.
