Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This was the most authentic, moving experience of a wonderful 4 month tour. We were a group of 16 people who traveled to the Stirling range in Southern Australia with an Aboriginal elder and his wife. A lovely morning picnic at a sacred site began the all day excursion. We moved on to many more sacred places. Our guide sang songs, played traditional instruments and danced and taught us to dance. We tracked through bush to the Lake of Many Colors where we learned more about the culture. Lunch was a very nice buffet in a local bistro followed by an exhibition of types of aboriginal painting.
The entire experience was wonderful. I cannot begin to do it justice with my description.

We were part of a 4.5 hour tour of nine people in a Cruise Critic group during our cruise stop in Albany. Joey and Catherine were wonderful guides, eager to share their experiences and traditions. We saw the statue of Mokare, the Man of Peace in downtown Albany, learned about aboriginal fish traps, the use of plants in both diet (bush tucker) and as medicines, saw a display of aboriginal tools and carvings, learned (and did!) the kangaroo dance, and witnessed Joey's artistic talent, both as a watercolor and sand painter. He plays a pretty good didgeridoo, too.

Thank you for your review, Michael P. It was a pleasure to host your group and we're glad you took the initiative to discover the not so obvious or accessible history of Aboriginal people in Albany. Even in the heart of the city, the story is there.

Thank you Traveleenie for taking the time to write a review. We also enjoyed our day with your group, especially watching you all dancing at the site. You made fantastic waitch (emus) and yonger (kangaroo) :-) Yes, the flies were a nuisance, but we're glad you appreciated the authentic swatter. May your travels continue to give you rich experiences....

Our half-day tour in February was a thought provoking and emotional experience, expanding our knowledge and understanding. And Joey‘s artwork – both from the tour and the gallery visit – that we took back home to Europe has a special place in our home and hearts. Thank you, Joey and Catherine, for all of it!

Today we went on Poornarti Aboriginal Tour. What a wonderful surprise this tour was. Small enough to really feel engaged and very attentive tour guides. Our Noongar guide Joey Williams told us his stories verbally, visually and through song...as they were passed down to him...what a wonderful thing to be able to share. We won't look at the landscape the same again...so much is there that we simply don't see. A special treat was Joey's demonstration of aboriginal painting, learning that not all indigenous art is made up of dot painting! Katherine's wonderful morning tea - served right there in the bush was just lovely and very welcome! To end the tour, we visited Joey and Katherine's art gallery...filled with wonderful art. We are popping back tomorrow to claim a painting! Our tour was in Denmark and we are now considering going on the Albany and Stirling Ranges tours. Thank you Joey and Katherine. Doug & Jan

Living locally it was such a wonderful and refreshing way to spend a few hours and one I will be recommending to people who visit here. Joey and Catherine are engaging, inclusive and share their knowledge in a way that is really easy to listen to, and understand. They really do take you on a journey in so many ways, covering things like bush tucker and medicine, important local land forms and their uses, traditional ways of life, Joey's childhood experiences, and his amazing painting ability. Thanks again Joey and Catherine

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, Pip. It is heartening to have local people, like yourselves, come on our tour and learn about Noongar life in the area. We enjoyed our day with your group, and weren't we lucky with the weather!

Joey and Catherine took us on an authentic journey of learning in country we are lucky enough to live in. A wonderful opportunity to become aware of the beautiful and complex culture of the people who walked so respectfully through this country and still do. Deepest thanks. I would recommend this experience to locals and visitors alike.

My husband and I live in Perth and stay in Denmark nearly every year, it is such a beautiful spot we keep coming back. This summer, we joined Joey on an Aboriginal tour of Denmark to learn more about the Aboriginal history of a place we both love. I had asked Joey to see something that we wouldn't usually see on our visits, and we weren't disappointed. We found the experience fascinating, from learning about the bushfood and medicinal plants, visiting waterholes and being taken to a sacred cave and birthing site. I loved hearing about Joey's traditional way of life when he was growing up, and some of the experiences of his family. The morning gave us a glimpse into this extraordinary and ancient culture, and the depth of its knowledge, spirituality and lore. It was a moving experience and an insight into an unspoilt, natural way of life. Joey, we enjoyed the Vergonia tea that night which we brewed on our gas stove, and I also made the snottygobble tonic! Thank you so much,
Melanie and Evan

Dear Melanie and Evan, Thank you so much for your positive review. We are so glad you took the opportunity to take this Denmark tour and gain a new perspective on Denmark. Aboriginal cultural sites and lifestyle and knowledge in and of Denmark can be hard for visitors (and locals) to access. We are so glad to be in a position to bridge this gap.

The 'Seeing Like an Eagle', community art weekend workshop, that you attended, was a great success, we think. As the first workshop to take place in our new gallery and cultural centre, it was heartening to see the space come alive with so much creativity. Thank you so much Freya, for being part of it.

Thank you, Basil, for your review, and for the input and effort you put into creating the two beautiful collaborative canvasses that map the waterways of Kwoorabup (Denmark).
