We were attracted by the prospect of easy access by train from Melbourne and easy access to all facilities in the town. We were not disappointed by any aspect. We especially enjoyed the small but distinctive art exhibition and museum collection in the Art Gallery

Love this small gallery and it's excellent Australian and international collection. All housed in a beautiful art deck building. Thank goodness it was saved at the last minute from closure. Don't miss it on a visit to Castlemaine.

Open around weekends after 10am. Maybe best to check on current open times. Good representation of Australian/Victorian art over the past few centuries.

Visited today and heard that private benefactors had donated $250k+ and that this would enable the gallery to stay open for 2 years with reduced opening hours - still to be worked out. Housed in an attractive art deco building just off the main street,...More
