Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are several options to sightsee on Seneca Lake. One of them is Stroller IV Scenic Boat Ride. This is a 50 minute ride seated inside on a wooden motorized sightseeing boat. The captain and his assistant gave a running commentary on the history and features of the lake and its main industry, the salt mines. It was OK though not terribly exciting though it was nice seeing the countryside from the perspective of the water. Another choice is a two hour schooner ride that serves wine and cheese run by the same company; judging by what I heard from those who took that one, it may have been a better choice.

This morning I called to inquire about the business operation schedule for the tour today. I spoke to Tom and I was told that the tours would be running every hour on the hour until 8:00 PM. I was also told that there was a minimum of 4 passengers required to do the sailing and I responded that would not be a problem.
Fast forward to this evening and I take my family to the gift shop to sign up for the 6:00 tour, a full two hours before I was told the business would be closed. As shown in the pictures, the sign in the window stated "OPEN" and advertised 9:00 as the time of closure.
The place was locked up tight and the crew had left. The boat was parked at the dock, the captain and crew had just decided to cancel the rest of the tours for the day and go home.
Needless to say, my family and I were all extremely disappointed. My daughter was really looking forward to getting a ride on the water after spending the day exploring the waterfalls in the state parks in the area.
I've never experienced such an unprofessionally operated business. I won't be returning to explore Seneca Lake with Captain Bill at any time in the future. Never would I ever design my family's day around such a poorly operated business. The fact that I was told one thing on the phone in the morning confirming that they would be in operation and then to just shut without warning is despicable. This isn't a business worthy of your time and money.
Do yourself a favor and pass on this operation.

This is the kind of trip that suits visitors of all ages, and takes around 45 minutes or so.
The Stroller IV is a beautiful and well-cared for vessel that I liked a lot. The captain of the boat delivered a nicely laconic guide to the area, helped by his younger assistant.
Certainly worth doing if you're in Watkins Glen.

The boat holds 49 passengers at a time & leaves on the hour from 11 AM - 3 PM. You can open your window or leave it closed; I opened mine to take better pictures, but left it closed because it was an early October day. The captain was knowledgeable of the lake, the area, & the salt refineries which are an industry attraction. I recommend for anyone; the boat ride circles the lake in about 50 minutes. Of course, when the water is too choppy the boat will not go out, so if you suspect that would be the case I would call in advance. Since I was in the area, I stopped by on a day when boat tours weren't offered, but the lady attendant in the gift shop area was very helpful in regards to other things we could do in Watkins Glen & different restaurants we could patronize. We were able to then come back the next day for a boat ride.

This is a nice relaxing 50 minute ride. The weather was beautiful. The captain and his mate were informative on the history of the lake. Not a whole lot to see on the trip as far as buildings/cottages but the scenery is beautiful.

The 50 minute Cruise was ok. The "highlight" of the trip appeared to be the two salt factories. The captain and his crewman spent a good deal of time just talking to each other. The crew member had little personality and seemed to just run through his script when needed.

We had a wonderful time taking the 50 minute cruise on the Stroller IV Scenic Boat Ride. The Captain and the our young host were great in entertaining us with all the facts about the origins of Seneca Lake. The weather was especially great that day which added to our enjoyment. It was also nice to have a roof which protected us from the hot sun. Would recommend this lake cruise.

The stroller IV isn't new or fancy I have risen on it as a youngster took my kids on it and now my grand kids
Nice easy ride. Informative on the area ranging from the lake geology to the salt industry and painting along the way
The jokes haven't really changed over the years but very family friendly
What's not to like about a quick sail up the lake and back

I am going to be in Watkins Glen on Sept. 7- will this boat ride still be going then?

According to the website the boat ride is still available
It's a 50 minute ride there is no meal or snacks available but I would suggest going to the Seneca Harbor Station for a meal afterwards, you could put in your reservation before the boat tour.

It was $16.00 per person, but things change. You might want to look them up on the net, or give them a call. I googled Stroller IV, and got their web page. The dinner cruise was more, but we didn't do that.
