Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I had an hour to kill, and thanks for Tripadvisor found this sweet little museum in Schenectady. After parking down at the end of the street by the river, we realized there was parking right behind the museum! It was six dollars each I believe to enter and the museum is an old house with a variety of exhibits. We found the furniture, the maps, and the Scrimshaw the most interesting. Some of the exhibits need a very good dust!

Nice lady on reception and clean toilets!

Nice historical museum highlighting the local history of the Schenectady area, its early settlers, and industries. There were alot of artifacts, a map room, a huge dollhouse, and some artwork. If you have a NARM card it's free, but if not, the $6 admission charge is well worth it. The lot behind the house is tiny, but it wasn't hard to find street parking. We saw this in just under an hour.

While visiting upstate NY we stopped in and found excellent genealogical reference material. In addition to enjoying the museum, art work, brochures and books, they gave us a handout on the cell phone walking tour of the Stockade Historic District. Highly recommend a visit.

Staff was very helpful in tracking down the history of a jug from a Schenectady liquor store that existed before Prohibition. They have a good collection of city directories, etc. They also have interesting exhibits.

What started as just a drive through in Schenectady ended up with a visit to their historical society and walking tour through the Stockade district. Nicely curated site in the old historic building and great information on the neighborhood. The Marquis de Lafayette stayed in one of the oldest houses upon his return visit to the United States.

This was a tie in with one of the historical American Girl Dolls. Seven of attended-My husband and I, my son and his wife and our five year old granddaughter Rosie and two American Girl Dolls. We're all tea fans! Tea itself was uninspired-that is, the tea and the food. The program was not very interesting-and did not appeal to the age children who attended. Would these girls ever want to go to a real tea? Too bad because we could certainly use a wonderful tea here in Schenectady.

The stockade area of Schenectady is a hidden gem in upstate New York. Narrow streets and old houses nestled along the Mohawk River in a location you would never stumble across by accident. The walking tours put on by the historical society give visitors a chance to see the neighborhood up close and to listen to stories about the rich history of the area. The tours are given only once a month in the summer and are worth planning ahead for.

I had last visited the Historical Society Museum over 40 years ago. Many things have changed. It was a pleasant visit seeing all of the current exhibits and discussing the changes with staff.
