Overview
More
Wilderstein Historic Site, with its exquisite Queen Anne mansion and Calvert Vaux designed landscape, is widely regarded as one of the Hudson Valley’s most important examples of Victorian architecture. The estate was the home of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, whose extraordinarily close relationship with Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been well-chronicled and is the subject of much interest. Wilderstein’s guided tour includes the elaborate 1888 interiors of the first floor of the mansion, the exterior architecture, landscape, annual exhibition, and video. The regular season for guided tours is May through October. In addition, the mansion is open and decorated for the holidays from Thanksgiving weekend until the end of December. There is also a network of hiking trails on the property, special events throughout the year, a gift shop, and spectacular Hudson River views.

See how the well-to-do lived in the 1880's to 1920's when this beautiful Victorian was enlarged and at its peak. The exterior and most of the main rooms have been restored. See the beautiful stained glass windows designed by a member of the Tiffany family....More

One of the lesser known mansions on the Hudson. Not a very long tour, mostly the ground floor but very informative.

If you are a history buff and loved FDR, this is a must see. You can feel the spirit of Daisy Suckley and FDR as you walk the grounds. If you are not a history buff, the architecture is terrific and the vistas are amazing....More

My wife and I loved our tour of Wilderstein. The house has been restored and is beautiful. And our docent provided an interesting history of the house and its owners.

We only got to visit the downstairs rooms but the stain glass alone was worth the visit. It had all the family original furnishings and had been restored to beautiful Queen Anne condition. Well worth the visit if you are in the area.

Beautifully restored in the outside & a wonderful view of the Hudson River. Our guide Mary was very knowledgeable & had interesting stories to tell of the last family members who lived in the house. Although only the first floor rooms can be seen, they...More

I gave this five stars even though you are not allowed to visit any rooms upstairs. The downstairs rooms, with original furnishings, art and stained glass windows, are worth a visit. The views of the Hudson made me want to sit away the rest of...More

The Wilderstein Historic Site is a great piece of architecture to see how the extremely wealthy lived at that time. The woodwork is incredible. The movie before the tour was deadly boring however. Intolerable, but the mansion was worth it.
