Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The place was described as a dive bar but found it to be charming. Industrial style decor with a bar and bowling lanes at the back of the bar. So much fun. Ability to order pitchers of beer and enjoy a friendly game or two of bowling

I visited for mother's day weekend and Sunday was quite chilly and rainy. We were looking for a fun indoor activity and found a great spot at Gutter Bar. We had a beer and a game and laughed! The guys at the counter were friendly. It was a great atmosphere!

I spotted a inviting bar while I was exploring the street leading to the shore of the East River on my first afternoon in the city. I arrived early evening on a Monday to find the bar quiet enough to grab a bar stool and order an IPA. I was directed to the right brew from a fair selection. I also got a good chat with the barman who was as skilled in his diverting musings as he was in pouring a perfect pint.
It was only after a few minutes and a second beer that I became aware of the familiar clap and trundle of the ten-pin bowling that was active off to my right at the rear of the bar. I realised that I was in a very special place indeed.
the bar busied up nicely as the evening wore on and I enjoyed watching groups get busy at the bowling. I was perfectly comfortable being there on my own- just watching- but it was the only time in my 10 day stay that I really missed a travelling companion.
I returned to the bar and the reassuring pour of another pint and a fine Bulleit bourbon on the side. needless to say, i left the bar with a smile and a very positive first impression of the New York bar scene.
I bought a neat t-shirt to remind me of my first night out.

Great big open space for a bar area with booths for seating, and room to mingle. Then, there's the bowling alley section, separate from the bar area so you can choose which scene you're into! Bowling area is a little tight but totally fun and has everything you need. Staff was all friendly and helpful. Food is limited to hot dogs and sliders but good bar food. Drinks aren't super pricey so it's a nice fun not-too-expensive night out.
