Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

February 15, 2024...I've skied Hunter for over 30 years. It's physically an excellent mountain and dedicated skiers loved it. It was always very well maintained and groomed when appropriate. No longer. Snowmaking this year is an improvement over last but grooming is horrible, dangerous and uneven. The ski patrol is negligent, never on the slopes patrolling unsafe actions. Lift line organization a joke - though who cares if the slopes are excellent. How pathetic is Vail Corporation that they can't get this mountain together - the way it used to be.

Lots of fun at the Airbnb in Hunter. We ice-skated, and ate at several delicious places. Highly recommend the location.

Terrible service, mountain is not well maintained and guest service is nonexistent. Huge lines for food, lifts, and parking.

30min lines, very old facilities, rude service, and 50% more expensive than Bellayre. Very few trails open and no proper mountain report provided

I have been snowboarding at Hunter for a long time. I never had a great experience at the mountain until today. For me the mountain was always too crowded and icy. You had to be watching from all around or you would get smacked into by some idiot. Way too many people. I hadn't been theer in many years because of this. This time around I went on a Monday about a week after they had a 2 foot storm. The conditions were the best ever for Hunter. At the top of the Mountain there was no ice. The trails were empty, and I never waited more than 3 min for a Lift line. As well as granulated packed powder and some powder on the lower trails. Great experience. All about when you go there. I never ski on Holidays or weekends. It ruins a very costly experience.

Vail is not maintaining the resort. Main roof leaks, spotty grooming. Not enough snow blowing in cold weather, many trails never used.
Gouges and Rocks on slopes damaging skis, expensive ski repair shop, expensive food, limited entertainment, frequent flyer breakdowns, failure to use ALL lifts during crowds and during midweek, high cost of senior ski passes, does not offer free passes for 70+ that was offered after Vail and Peak resorts took over, unattractive lodge, expensive stores, large Crack in window all season, muddy parking lots, no more disinfecting or cleaning dining tables

This is a very good mountain close enough to the city. It is about 2h 30 min drive from Brooklyn (if you leave around 6:30am).
Good: nice selection of trails. It was reasonable priced for one day. If you buy in advance of your travel date (1-2 days) - you will get a discount.
Bad: Belt Pkwy was overcrowded. The food/ drinks were very pricey. Meat wrap is $15. Chicken soup $12. $9 for beer and $14 for wine + tax. )))
Parking lot gets crowded.

where do i start?
They charge 14 usd for a dmall salad and 7 dollars for a coke. at some point i went to take an empty cup with ice and was suddenly stopped like a supervisor as if i was caught shoplifting, because they charge for an empty cup. yes.
the food treys are wet. they don't bother drying then so if the 15 pieces kf French fries are lost on the tray, they are now filled with water too. I mentioned to the manager and he explained that's how they come out of the machine. So help me got that was his answer.
the toilet looks like a neglected subway statuon, i can go one and on but too busy. never again.

Joyce in the rental dept was excellent and encouraging. The skii rental people should have given me 150s (cautious) instead of 130s. I enjoyed it otherwise.

Stayed at the perfect little airbnb right at the base of the mountain. We took the Scenic Ride chairlift and then hiked to the firetower. The views were incredible. The staff working both the mountain and the fire tower were very friendly and super informative.

So you are saying that you went skiing while your mother in law and their grandmother was on her deathbed and passed away? They you were expecting the Hunter Staff to pity you for doing this? And then give the resort a bad review? I’m sorry but this is a one star review on your decision making.
I don’t know what is wrong with people today! But they should have kicked you off the mountain on moral grounds and said go be by your wife’s side.

How is this place around Easter weekend? I’ve never skiied or snowboarded before and want to take my preteens for a 4-5 day Easter weekend this year. What should i expect or how do i even begin to plan this type of trip?

Hi Globe, I would follow accuweather and/or the weather channel. Weather is not a 100% exact science and the storm track could always change. Also, make sure you have a full tank of gas and a car with 4wd or good snow tires to get through the snow if there is any. As of right now it looks like snow showers only. I would also check with the lodge as to their cancellation policy. Have fun and be safe!

We are driving from NJ to the catskills region. We have 3 full days & 2 nights. I'd like suggestions on eating, scenic spots, some night life. Hiking trails ect. We are going the last wknd in September. Driving up the Hudson as I'm right across the Hudson from NYC. We've done research but just looking for 1st hand input on must see things. Thank you!

Some restaurant suggestions are:
Jessie's Harvest House (excellent food)
Last Chance Cheese (good for lunch or dinner)
Van Winkle's Restaurant (in the hotel on the mountain)
Catskill Mtn Country Store (good for breakfast or lunch)
There are many hiking trails within North/South Lake park but will be busy on the weekends. You can take the Sky Ride at Hunter Mtn and hike to the fire tower where you'll have an incredible view. There are trail heads off of Rte 214 one of which will take you up to the fire tower . Be aware it's a steep hike. I suggest you look up hiking trails in the region to find what is best for your ability. There's also an information building in Haines Falls on 23a where they have lots of hiking info.
Oktober Fest is held at Hunter Mountain. As for nightlife, there really is none.
Have fun! It's a beautiful time of the year to be in Hunter.

Entre 25 de diciembre y 3 enero se puede encontrar nieve? Queremos ir para que nuestros hijos la conozcan

Hi! It all depends. Sometimes the Northeast has a good snowfall in December, especially during the latter parts. However some years they get none. There isn't much to do there if there isn't any snow. You may want to consider a mountain that has an indoor water park for your children in case skiing isn't an option. Enjoy!
