Overview
More
Hudson River School painter Frederic E. Church designed Olana, his family home, studio, and estate, as an integrated environment embracing architecture, art, and landscape. Olana, a National Historic Landmark, is an icon of naturalistic landscape design, with five miles of carriage roads and a Persian-inspired house at its summit, embracing unrivaled panoramic views of the vast Hudson River Valley. Today, visitors can experience an array of activities, from meandering through the 250 acre artist designed landscape, to taking a tour of the house and surrounding landscape, to viewing the changing exhibitions both in the main house and a gallery devoted to contemporary photography. They can see a 17 minute award-winning video on the property and a permanent orientation exhibit. They can also participate in a variety of educational programs in the Wagon House Education Center, including a free backpack program that includes a variety of projects for children.

I had seen brochures showing the tower and have been intrigued, wanting to visit for a while. It is as beautiful as shown, the building and the site. The current display of Moroccan clothing was very enjoyable as we had the chance to visit Morocco...More

This is a magnificent site. Enjoy the views and the grounds. Of course take a house tour early in the morning. Reserve online ahead of time. Outrageous and opulent. You must take pics. Go with friends and just knock yourself out.

We visited on a humid day. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, but the interior was very dark-dark wallpaper, paint, flooring, even Mr. Church's paintings. It was not very well airconditioed. We were unfortunately underwhelmed by the visit, expecting more.

Touring through this place is like visiting the mansions in Rhode Island. The outside is stunning and the inside is unique. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The guide was adequate. Mr. Price was quite a guy apparently.

I go there for the grounds and the view. I worked on the house about 45 years ago as a mason's laborer. I have been in love with this site ever since.

We took a tour that lasted a little over an hour. An amazing home in nearly untouched condition. It doesn't matter if you've never heard of Frederick Church or if you're a scholar of the Hudson River artist, you will come away impressed by the...More
