About
The Shirt Factory was built in 1902 for the McMullen-Leavens Company as a shirt factory, the building was expanded in 1910 as production increased. In the 1930's the product line expanded into dress manufacturing. The shirt and dresses produced here were high quality fashion featured on the pages of publications like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Production continued here through 1996 when the factory closed its doors. In 1999 the current owner began a slow process of rehabilitating the building and breaking it up into rentable studio space. Over the years the space has grown and evolved. Visitors will find an eclectic mix of individuals calling the 70 plus studios here home, offering a wide range of goods, services, classes and more. The building is open daily 8am-5pm, individual studios set their own hours/availability, please check our website for studio hours. While here you will notice machines in the halls and dresses and shirts displayed in cases, these are from the original factory that operated here, for which the building is named. The first floor is our "designated retail area" all studios on this floor are open on Thur-Sat from 12pm-5pm, many studios on the other floors are also open at this time, making these ideal days to visit the building! The range offered by tenants is impressive! There is kung fu/martial arts/tai chi, yoga & zumba, loose leaf tea, baked goods, Himalayan salt lamps and Himalayan salt products, pottery, furniture, original artwork in a variety of forms and mediums, acupuncture, massage, vintage goods, a hair salon, yarn and fiber arts...You have to it experience to truly appreciate the variety. For an experience unlike any other, visit the building during an open house, especially the two that occur between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The owner allows the tenants to invite outside vendors in to set up in the halls, it is an amazing opportunity not only to shop local, but to find unique one of a kind gifts for yourself and everyone else on your list! On our website is a full directory with tenant descriptions, hours and contact information, as well as a calendar with upcoming events and classes to help you make the most of your visit!

Walking in we were a little confused. We didn't find a map of the vendors or much in the way of history of the building.

Not a lot of shops, but still fun to walk around and read about the old factory.
Mostly photography, yoga and art studios.

Worth the stop by, but highly recommend checking for times when stores are open. End of the week & weekends are more likely to have stores open. The Christmas open houses are worth the trip for good deals on hand-crafted items.

My son and I went there to meet up with his friends to look at some work that needs to be done. I was very surprised that there are so many different business in there. It's just as it sounds; an old factory with big thick creaky floors and stairs. I don't even know how many different stores/shops/ etc. are in there. I saw a hair salon, a karate dojo and we went into two different areas where these guys process geodes, crystals and many other rocks and elements including some that glow in the dark. Really cool stuff. There are many artisans shops, different teas, and the history of the building is displayed via pictures and antique samples along the halls. It really is a great historical site to check out. I'm sure there's something for everyone there. Oh.. BTW during the summer they have food truck roundups. Just more cool stuff. Check it out.

The Shirt Factory is a wonderful idea, and potentially a terrific, unique place. The problem was that when I went on a Tuesday morning, most of the shops were closed--but the few that were open were charming. I still got to see the historic building and read about its history as a garment manufacturing business until around 1980. There are wonderful framed garments from the '50s and 60's when things were so well made compared to the cheap quality of clothing today. Don't miss the psychedelic fabrics! I was having flashbacks! There are also some antique sewing machines. You can easily imagine the way it must have been back in the day.

However, I was disappointed that there were only a few shops open. There were a nice tea shop and a shop that sold jewelry and collectible rocks. Both stores had unique items at inexpensive prices. There was also another store selling the kind of cute insulated drinkware that is popular now and another large gift shop that I did not go in. So, I did enjoy the stores I went to and I bought some loose tea that I'm looking forward to trying. The people running the shops were friendly and helpful. I think there are times, perhaps on the weekends when more places are open. There was also lots of Yoga and healing arts type places and even a paranormal headquarters. A bagel place is supposedly going to open there soon (there is a vending machine). I would have loved to visit the paranormal place and ask about ghosts in the building.

From May thru September weather permitting, food trucks gather about 430 - ? Lots of choices. Loved the brisket sandwich, tater tots and mini donuts all from different trucks. Music and games for kids including horseback rides and bounce houses. We will be back with the grandkids. Great place to escape saratoga summer track traffic!

Not in center of town and when approaching one wonders what actually will be inside. Some nice shops. Got a nice piece of jewelry, we think, in Close2UR. The internet seems not to list all shops within The Shirt Factory, but could have missed proper web site when searched

Hubby and I visited this place about 2 years ago after we relocated to a 55+ condo in Ballston Spa. It was a pretty warm summer day when we made the trip to Glens Falls, NY in search of The Shirt Factory. Easy to find I was surprised by the size of this large beautiful building and a once booming business. The architecture speaks volumes of history so I naturally fell in love with the deep red bricks, small narrow windows and large chimney located on the side of the large multi-storied structure. Access inside was a bit challenging because of the 6-8 stairs to gain entry. The warm day was at least high 80's and warmer inside and there was no air conditioning and only fans set inside different shops. The halls were narrow and lengthy to walk, doors were large and heavy which indicated these were original to the building. The few shops found appeared to be offering unique crafts and gifts but many rooms were empty. We should have spent more time exploring the entire building. I was more impressed by the fascinating history than the shops. Would definitely return especially since we located elevators on the other side and the fact that this visit took place at least 2 years ago. It is worth the visit just to read the displayed history boards and pictures of the building. I am so impressed by the efforts of the city of Glens Falls, NY who continue to do renovations and re-purposing in creating small business growth. Hats off to a community who surely understands the need to continue to grow their community by utilizing their historic architecture and embracing their history!

The building is a converted factory where they made shirts, and there are pictures and garment displays throughout. Now there are a lot of boutique and one-of-a-kind stores inside that are fun and fanciful and worth the visit. Stop at The Stone Stash if you like rocks ... or even if you don't because there are so many cool things worth your time. And if you go to Sensibiliteas you're going to be stunned by how many loose-leaf options you can buy as the options are a shelves that go up to the ceiling.
