Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went out as a big group to celebrate our brothers 40th birthday and had an absolute ball!! Everyone enjoyed it from adults and all our children.

The team at Asylum we’re extremely helpful, a massive thank you and shoutout to Cas and Ethan for making it extra fun for us and always looking out for our small children who ended up beating the adults 😂😂😂

Cas is a true precessional at what she does, she’s an absolute legend for making our experience so enjoyable and memorable!

Thank you again Asylum we would definitely come back next time we’re back in Nz.

My group had an awesome time here and I would highly recommend this place to everyone. Very good deals and the games are customised to suit you. There is a lot of variety with the maps and the instructors let you have a lot of freedom with want you want to do. 10/10 would go again.

Highly recommend this place. We took a group of 9 for my sons " teen" birthday and all I can say is WOW. We had Cas (sp) and she could not be faulted, she made the experience perfect. The boy & girls had a fantastic afternoon - this was worth every penny and we highly recommend. We look forward to coming back

We had my sons 10th birthday there. Alex could not do enough to help. The boys had low impact paintballs and loved every moment of it. A few of them had been to lock n loaded a couple of weeks before and really enjoyed it, but they all said this was far better. We did the ultimate package so got pizzas etc. Easiest birthday we’ve ever had all we had to do it provide cake and few lollies. The boys all can’t wait to go back again. Thanks once again Alex you went out of your way for us and we really appreciated it

Recently attended a day trip to the paintball field with a large group from work. We were well looked after by friendly staff. Given the rundown on all the safety instructions and equipment and proceeded to have an exciting and fun day in there large arenas a couple outdoors and one in an old two story house. Awesome. The cheapest ammunition refill cost that I have seen. Quality guns. Cool props such as old prison bus broken cars and of course with the site being in an actual decommissioned mentle asylum gives a slight creepy factor as well.

After the game they gave access to their bbq and tables and chairs. There's also a small shop to get snacks and drinks ect.

Highly recommended.

What could have been a great staff function and a lot of fun as a total experience was sadly let down by what I would consider basics. The venue in a old Asylum is terrific as it remains I believe as it was, depressing awful if you were a inmate, the equipment was good and a lot of fun was had by all when playing the game . Training and explanation were clear and did not drag on.
The issues were reception did not appear organized, did not have booking clearly identified and what was on offer as extras and costs and calculating what was still due to be paid after a online deposit was not understood and the process drawn out and unwieldy. I do not know what the ladies toilets were like but the men's had not seen a proper clean in weeks I would suggest. The offer was for the use of a Gas BBQ which had not been cleaned as was the area of the BBQ. After a complaint the BBQ was given a good clean and with the my staff we shifted the table and BBQ away to a cleaner environment .As the employer trying to provide my staff with something pleasant I was greatly disappoint to be put in this position.
In addition there were not effort instructors available to have all game areas going as it should , this resulted in our company having to join up with another company or cease playing. I therefore believe the management weak and not paying attention to the requirements of the entertainment and service on offer. It would take little to change this and radically improve this to everyone's benefit. The owners included.

It has been a few years since we have received this 2 out of 5 review. I am truly sorry that your group has received a poor experience. It was a bit of a shock for me at first but after all you don't improve if no one tells you off. We have taken the constructive criticism and feedback on board and have worked really hard on improving how things run at Asylum Paintball. We have changed out booking system and organisation at the reception level, we now offer an easy and straight forward way to book you group in. We have improved our internal communication system and have plenty of instructors available to run the games, we now offer the games to run in private format, where the group doesn't get mixed with other groups. Toilets are checked and cleaned regularly. The BBQ area have been shifted into a different location and the BBQ is cleaned for each group that asks to use it. I believe Asylum Paintball has been working continuously on making things better, and we strive to be the best paintball park in Auckland and New Zealand. I personally value every group and every customer, and hope that everyone who visits Asylum Paintball received a lot of positive emotions and have a day filled with fun.

Our airsoft club (Tauranga Airsoft Club) organised an event at the Asylum and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

The combination of fields and the rush of playing Close Quarters Battles inside the old hospital building made for a fun-filled, action-packed event.

The staff were very accommodating and expressed great interest in working with our club to host future events.

We are all looking forward to playing at the Asylum again. It is a new favourite gaming field!

Great staff, informative and safety conscious. Our course catered for kids 6 through to 40 we all had a ball. Split up into 2 teams with the same goal, different strategies were used to achieve the same objective. The day was finished off with Pizza and Drinks. Our party of 11 had a awesome day and highly recommend it to other families in the same situation having children with various ages. Cant wait to go back soon.
