the Rockaways have gone through many changes over the years . Playland long gone...the old summer bungalows gone replaced with housing projects and small development houses. Sandy did a number on the area,the Breezy Pont fire... just coming back under a new look. horrible parking...More

closest surf beach to nyc so its got that going unless youre wiling to travel extra time for long beach. waves suck and only really good for beginners but thats east coast for you unless its hurricane season and/or winter but then it gets too...More

Wouldn't live anywhere else in NYC. We call Rockaway Beach "Nashville North" due to the abundance of excellent musicians / bands of all genres. The boardwalk is the place to be on a summer day / & night.

You can't go wrong at any of the Rockaway beaches. This stretch of beach has a nice family quality to it. Same great water and sand and surf.

I love it that time of year down there, but it can be quite desolate if you mind that sort of thing. An hour or so from midtown on the A train.

I love the area near the Dredsurfer Grill on 17th Street. It is relaxing, family friendly and calm. You'll find free parking too.
