Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is about a 5-mile round trip hike, mostly level but with small ups and downs... nothing steep. While there IS a 'loop' around the lake, the left fork of the trail takes you to the beach and the right fork takes you to the Falls... IF you take the left fork and walk all the way around the end of the lake to the Falls, be prepared to get muddy: past the beach, the left side gets a lot of water off the slopes ... and that's BEFORE you have to cross the marsh. The right fork may not take you as close to the lake but it's more direct to get to the end of the lake to the Falls.
This neither a very tall waterfalls (maybe in the 20-30 ft height range) nor a very 'big' cascade... in fact, I've hit it in a dry year when there was no water here at all. But most years, there is at least a small cascade (better if you catch it a day or two after it has rained).
But it's a very pleasant walk in the woods and a nice, picturesque falls when it's running.

I recently went to Old Forge and for the first time did some hiking there. One of the hikes was to Cascade Falls. This is not a huge falls but the setting is gorgeous and it is not a hard walk. A little wet in spots but not hard.We walked the whole trail and we were there for about 5 hours. Cascade Lake is nice also and we stopped there for awhile to take in the scenery. The leaves were past peak but it was still nice. If you are in the area take the walk it is worth it.

My husband and I did this hike a few years ago. It is not a real hard hike but maybe for some it could be difficult. It was a little muddy when we went. About halfway around the lake was a beautiful falls. I guess I had not looked into this hike before I did it so I wasn't expecting it. It is really a very nice falls. It is not a crowded hike so you can take pics and not have a lot of people around too. We did go completely around the lake. The other side of the lake is flatter and not as interesting but worth going all the way around. The date I had to pick is not the correct year but...

We stayed to the right of the fork. This trail went through the woods most of the time, was dark and not scenic. It was very muddy. When we approached the waterfalls there was a small path to the falls. My group did not want to venture onto the path because they did not want to walk through the tall grass due to a fear of ticks. We saw the falls through the trees but it did not look like the stunning falls people have posted. Perhaps if we were wearing long pants and long socks we might have felt more comfortable venturing closer to the falls. Also, we went out and back instead of going around the lake and only got a small glimpse of the lake.

We did an afternoon hike through Cascade Lakes trail towards Cascade Falls. The trailhead was a few miles outside of Eagle Bay (not an hour outside of it, as one article I read suggested), with a small parking area. This trail wound through woods for the most part, pretty but without a lot of views. To get to the falls was about a 6.5 mile hike for us, although not a difficult one - the trail was sometimes a little rocky, but not steep or hard to find. There were signs at almost all intersections, EXCEPT, disappointingly, we never saw a sign for the falls themselves! They are perhaps 100 yards off the main trail, but with no sign for the side trail. Listen for the water, and if you see a little side trail right before (or after, if you are coming the other way through the loop) one of the small wooden bridges crossing a stream, take it.

Nice hike. Lots of leaves covering up loose rocks which were a little dangerous to ankles. Would have rated a 5 except for all of the horse poo on the trail. Nasty.

Plesant moderate walk about 5.5 miles if you go around the lake too. We recommend returning around the lake. The walk is not as hilly and the flora is different.
