ATM's are everywhere in Duong Dong, if you are at a resort that is out of town, perhaps not so much. I could never get my bank card to work in an ATM while I was there, but I only tried three times, not sure if they didn't accept the "Plus" network. Worst case scenario, I did this last year, was go to the bank and get a cash advance on your Visa. But prepay your Visa, with a positive balance to avoid ridiculous services charges. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: If you plan on bringing cash, inspect all of the bills very carefully before you leave. They will reject any bills with writing on them, or marks, or stamps. I even had one rejected because of a small dot, probably a stain, about the size of the period on this sentence. (Maybe just a little bigger). And also inspect the bills they give you, they have no qualms about dumping bad bills on tourists. So unless you want to be stuck with $500 you can't spend because its marked, and another $750,000 VND that was tainted and you didn't notice it, so you're stuck with it- unless you want to spend 2 hours at a bank trying to get a partial refund on your money, pay attention to the money. Very important! Taxi's prefer cash. A lot of stores accept Visa. They are even shying away from the USD now. Some waitresses told me the Govt is making it very hard to cash in small American bills, they usually pay a penalty, etc. Otherwise, enjoy! I love Vietnam! Miss it already and I've only been home 2 weeks.
