- luv_honey28 contributionsPolluted beachSad to say that Seminyak beach, filled with many plastic bottles/ wrappers at beach area and in water. There’s no upkeep and it’s in poor condition. Kuta/ Legian beach became better than this secluded seminyak beach. December is rainy month, wind is strong. All water activities were closed. There’s nothing there except some braiding, painting seller. Location: near kudetaVisited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 31 December 2022
- KHilleryMeadowbrook, Australia389 contributionsGreat for a walkGood for a morning walk, lots of People doing just that along with their pups. Good food options along the way. Staff at the local establishments do a good job of cleaning up the rubbish that comes in every night in the tide. Lots of places to sit and most of the bars/cafes have their seating options on the beach.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 February 2023
- Off their PManchester, United Kingdom4,179 contributionsSomething for everyoneThis isn’t the most beautiful beach we’ve ever visited, but it still has an awful lot to offer. Obviously, it is very popular with the surf schools and these are always entertaining to watch. We used it for exercise and used to walk for miles up and down it and you always see something different. You can rent sun loungers and parasols for not too much money and spend the day though which is nice. It is also lined with bars and restaurants are there in qualities. Many of these offer sunset beers, which are wonderful and, if you use their facilities through the day, they have free, beanbags and simmer for you to relax on all day.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 February 2023
- Hosse SVästerås, Sweden140 contributionsFind another beachI traveled to Bali/Densapar and got me a hotel near this beach. I spent a couple of hours here, the rest of the days I spent St the hotels pool. There's absolutely nothing special about this beach making it worth visiting. If you want to learn how to surf there are stands with teachers, can't say anything about their competence nor equipment. And for the lov of everything holy, wear footwear! Almost cut my foot open on glas. There's a lot of trash and debries and some locals try to gather it all up and clean the beach, but overall, this beach is nothing for me, and nothing I can recommend. It gets stars for the cleaner part with sunbeds.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 February 2023

- LisaEstella71Adelaide, Australia884 contributionsNice enough, but not peaceful. An an Aussie, my beach standards are high. What was good: Warm environment, warm water (I only paddled my feet), lots of shops and restaurants nearby to have a sunset meal. Nice atmosphere to sit and sunbake. What was not good: People selling you stuff the minute you stand still or sit down, rubbish and glass on the beach, making walking barefoot a bit of a risk, walking for ages around the backstreets trying to find a way through the resorts that block the beaches. We just had one walk here because it was less risky in the hotel pool. Not the place for peace and quiet.Visited June 2023Written 25 June 2023
- Vivien J1 contributionDisappointed in BaliAbsolutely hated Bali not the tropical island I expected. Dirty and noisy rubbish everywhere.. beautiful people so friendly fantastic weather that’s it. Would never go again .. seminyak beach too dangerous for swimming undercurrents and after 4 pm the locals took there dogs on the beach and let them pee and poop anywhere without picking it up. Some great bars and restaurants but it wasn’t for us. I couldn’t see past the litter . The last few days we discovered senur which was lots better than seminyak it had a nice beach and a lot cleaner but still not enough to entice me backVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 July 2023
- Ali B15 contributionsNot so good any moreBefore it was ok place to chill and watch sunset. Now, every bar is banging horribly loud bass music all over the beach. You cannot even talk to the person sitting next to you on the beanbags in front of the bars. The bar staff says 'yes the music must be so loud'. Seriously? How dumb. No desire any more to go to that beach or much of others. All places in Bali have degraded in quality big time. The locals/owners just don't understand what a good experience means. Catering to drunk yobbos, while wanting quality tourists.. odd mentality.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 September 2023

The place is smelly and the footpaths bloody dangerous to walk on. This is my last visit to Seminyak as I find it crowded and expensive for what it is. The beach is nice if you don’t mind a sprinkling of rubbish here and there.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 September 2023

This my second time to Denpasar. Last time I stayed on Kuta beach. This time I did Kuta and Seminyak. It just seems that Seminyak was designed by a yuppie. Glitzy stores, more upper class crusty people in Tommy Bahama shirts and coach purses dinning in fancy restaurants that are probably owned by foreigners not locals, and shops like Starbucks and H & M and chains I want nothing to do with in my Bali experience, seem to permeate. Kuta is chaotic, but there tends to be more little shops owned by locals, more street food, more raucous fun and revelry and a lighter less stuffy mood. Prices there are also more reasonable. I also think the beach is better there. I am writing this from having two trips here and spending time on both areas.
I really feel like Kuta is the place Anthony Bourdain might have gone or Andrew Zimmer and Seminyak is for the Martha Stuart types. Seminyak seems like the topsoil experience of Bali and Kuta more of the bedrock. After walking around Seminyak I felt dirty like I needed to go to the hotel room and wash the pretense off.

We were here 5 years ago and would have given it an 8/10. Since coming back we have been taken to wrong resturants even though our hotel porter gave directions. The same thing happened the following day going to a day spa. Wrong location. We have eaten at resturants and all have been very average and that is being kind. We are not food critics just hate being ripped off. The villa Coco we stayed the staff are friendly , helpful and could not do enough for you. VILLA COCO 10/10

Seminyak beach is simply superb however prices are higher for everything compared to Kuta beach. There is a certain air of quality on this beach and the food in beachside cafes and bars is also of a superior quality. Staff are very competent and very very helpful in this area. Prices do reflect the quality of service and food. Beach sellers here are much more respectful and don’t pressure sell or continue to pester you.

Although not safe to swim, this lovely area is typical of many beaches around Indonesia and Thailand. There’s always beach cushions and seats available while one has a drink. But, be careful of being bitten. Cover your lower back and thighs. There’s sand fire ants and possibly bedbugs in the beach cushions.

Stunning Sunsets and Sunrises accept for the 1000s of offers to the Hindu gods polluting and littering the beach every morning half washed away by the tide half littering the beach with scavengers looking for anything of value left to the gods. What I do not understand is why so much none bio degradable crap is left like sweets in rappers and other plastic items. The stench of Balis sewage does not help along this beach with festering drainage from the towns homes continually running. Into the sea. They are a victim of there own effluent. Many hotels and new businesses have to gluon the new sewage system but local homes cannot afford to do out to sea it goes. You won’t see many bathers on this beach but plenty of runners and photographers. E Coli is rife and Bali Billie common.
Having said all this the hotels are fabulous and the servos impeccable. The worker are so pleasant and well trained.
It’s the locals who seem to not care about their surroundings dumping rubbish in the open drains to only get washed out to sea when a storm is heavy enough to empty them.
Would I return? Sorry No Way. I love the ocean but not the Bali Sea😢🌍

Fantastic beaches, dark sand gets hot though.. but clean, unlike Jimbaran... great Hotels we stayed at the Legian.. superb... We stayed at the 4 seasons in Jimbaran.. great place .. nice restaurants on Jimbaran beach for breakfast and dinner but the beach at seminyak is MUCH cleaner.. wider.. longer.. Pretty wicked surf though. BE CAREFUL swimming.. the waves are strrrrong!!!! There is a fantastic fish market at the north end of Jimbaran though.. Dont walk barefoot on Jimbaran.. but you can even RUN barefoot on Seminyak... but do NOT do that at Jimbaran!!! Time for One place only? Seminyak Hands down..

Such a superb menu with a large range to suit all tastes. We both had fish dishes, one served in a mild curry, the other served Belgian style, enjoyed with a glass of top quality Margaret River wine at a budget price. Loved it...and the great cheerful service and ambience. Lovely quiet location away from traffic.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's safe to travel to Bali regarding the corona virus? Me and my boyfriend are traveling April 3, and have already bought our tickets. Should we be concerned about the virus spreading there, and does anyone know what happens if flights get cancelled?
Jeff H.
Los Angeles, CA17 contributions
There are no corona virus cases in Bali or Indonesia. I just got back and everything was fine. Yes, there are coughing Chinese people on planes and a few were denied entry into Bali a week ago. I had one next to me on the flight from LAX to SYD. I would suggest flying through Sydney instead of Hong Kong or Taiwan to minimize the risk. My main concern would be the stop over, not Bali.
Also realize that travel insurance will not help you. I bought travel insurance through Allianz for the Tokyo Olympics, and they just told me that there is no coverage if it is related to the corona virus. They have exclusion in most policies for epidemics. I would have never bought the worthless Allianz insurance if I would have known that.
Definitely go, but take plenty of hand sanitizer.

To avoid the stinky canal during sunset I went to Botanica but got sick from the alcohol. It appears it only happened there as i tried La lucciola and Mano but no issues. Is this an isolated event?

I think it was an isolated case. The beach bars at Seminyak are all pretty careful to maintain there quality because of the competition along the beach.

Hello Timothy, i have never been early september but from the middle off oktober. It is sadly to say that there is al to off garbage on the beach in the evening and morning but that depends off the weather and the wind, but do not worry about the garbage. Early in the morning the people off Balido their utmost to ensure that all the dirt is gone and the tourists can enjoy from a beautiful beach and the sea.

Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!
Pretty much a rule of thumb is only pay 1/3 of what is first asked. Certainly NEVER any more than that at markets. If you have a price in mind, and they are asking CONSIDERABLY more, drop your opening offer to 20% of what they're asking. Bartering/bargaining is fun - not for some, though - and can get you an absolute bargain. Never feel pressurised...not sure? Walk on.
