Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Me and my wife had a great time! Came down on our honeymoon with no intention of fishing, but after seeing how pretty the river was we just couldn’t resist! Walter hooked us up even on late notice and even though we had never fly fished before, he still made it a successful trip. He showed us how to do everything and made our time out there something we will never forget!

I've done several guided trips with Wally over the past 10 years, I'd say at least 6-8 different trips, mostly on the Yellowstone River. Without a doubt, he is the best fly fishing guide I know and I've been fortunate enough to take guided trips all over the world. He is patient and knows the rivers, conditions, and techniques to put all kinds of anglers onto trout. He is an expert fly-tier so expect to use his original fly patterns (which the fish don't see as often as the usual stuff) and he knows exactly how to "dial-in" on what the fish are looking for at the moment. Perhaps my favorite thing about Wally is that in addition to his expertise in all things fly-fishing, he has good head on his shoulders and many hobbies and interets and you can carry on a great conversation with him--something you don't think about but when you spend 8-10 hours together on a full-day trip is actually a real consideration! I can't recommend him enough as he is truly a fisherman's fisherman but who is also great with beginners. I've been fly-fishing a long time and am very serious about it and I've learned more from Wally than from any other guide. A very special trip, if conditions are right, is to fish the Stillwater River, which doesn't see much pressure and the trout are aggressive--be sure to ask!

Being a beginner to fly fishing and aiming for my second fish of the cut slam, Walter really had his work cut out for him. He was absolutely heroic in his efforts to help me. His understanding of the fish, habitat, and habits, along with his instructional skills were expert. His non-patronizing calm put me at ease and helped me to accomplish my mission. It was a great day!

Wow...I’ve benefitted Walter’s fly tying videos for years. Now we’ve finally had the opportunity to fish with him. I wish I could adequately express how good his guide skills are. Fly fishing requires skill. When it’s game time and you have to account for varying stream currents, making the pin point cast, mending and mending again, while watching for the fish to eat the fly. You need a special guide, who says the right thing at the right time. That is Walter. He coached my wife to successfully catching trout after trout, while I fished well behind them. I’m still amazed...and grateful. I’m thankful Walter does what he does. I will book him again in a heartbeat.

Everything I had hope for. I am a bit of a novice at fly fishing and my guide, Kody, was very good at coaching me through the technical aspects of the sport. He also handled the boat superbly. I highly recommend this operator and guide and would not hesitate to book again.

I agree that Kody is a good guide, but he doesn't work for me. I suggest removing this review and posting it for Parks' Fly Shop, in Gardiner, MT. This is the shop for which Kody works.

Walt was fantastic, last minute change in our travel plans meant we could drift down the Yellowstone. 2 words- DO IT!
It is as good as the books, DVDs and magazines say it is- but if you do it- go with Walt. The second guide I have been with in 20 years of flyfishing and the experience I gained as an experienced flyfisher was awesome. He consistently put us over fish, knew the water like the back of his hand and was a great bloke.

I fished 2 days with Walt in the middle of May when most rivers are blown out , we fished the section below Hauser dam where a specialized drift boat is needed to run upriver using a turbo prop engine to avoid the many boulders and float down River. We caught quite a few large rainbows, the largest being a 23 inch 6 pound beauty. Walt is very knowledgeable on this section of the river and would recommend him to anyone looking to catch very large fish. When the waters near Gardiner is fish able Walt is an excellent guide for the Yellowstone Park area.

Fly fishing at it's best with Walter Wiese as guide on the Missouri River June 2015. Walt r was a very knowledgable of the best spots on the river and knew the best flies to catch the big boys.

After fishing with guides in Chili, Mongolia,
North Carolina And Virginia trout streams, Walter ranks up there with the best.
