Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everything you need for the outdoors in Montana, from fishing to cycling. Great shoe and shoe insert fitting. Tons of ambience and history, look for the mounted fish and many fish outlines on the wall. Top-notch, knowledgeable service.

Most fly shops I visit, I feel compelled to spend money for River advice. Not so much here. The staff was really friendly and pointed me to places - Mill Creek - I would not have found by myself. The store is large and well stocked, even my wife found something to buy. Located right downtown, extra props for their cool sign out front. Check it out.

I was in town and needed to stop in and grab something for my husband. This isn’t my forte, so I needed help. I was very well taken care of and got the goods needed to please the hubby (:

We regularly visit Livingston, Montana for the IFFF Flyfishing fair. On our "must do" list is always a visit to Dan Bailey's Fly Shop. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and can always provide good advice about which flies to choose, fishing locations, etc. We usually browse the sale table and, over the years, have found some fabulous bargains.

This is the place. Famous and knowledgable. We had never done this before but lived fly fishing. We went in boats down the river and our guide supplied everything needed, even sunscreen. They can answer anything about fly fishing and so helpful too!

This shop has kept fish caught years ago and we were able to see my grandfathers and uncles fish. I grew up on their catalogs. This shop has the small town feel with people who know their fly fishing.

I stopped by several mornings in a row on my way out to go fishing, and the staff was supremely helpful, even offering to print off some maps and guidelines for me; this was even before I bought anything. They're very knowledgeable and willing to help newcomers get to know the area. Highly recommended.

I stopped by here on a recent fly fishing trip in the area. What a great shop! I had a friend tell me about it, and he kept telling me about it, and he visited 25 years ago. He always said it was the nicest shop he'd been in. I don't know if it is the nicest, but it is excellent. The staff is knowledgeable of the fishing in the area, know their equipment extremely well, make informed recommendations on what to use, and which products work best for what conditions. They have plenty of people tying flies regularly, and that makes it worth stopping in on it's own. They also have plenty of products that are high quality and reasonably priced under their own name.
I can't wait to get back to the area to fish, but I'm also looking forward to stopping by the shop.

Years back, the one side of the shop was set up for tying flies for fishing. Rows of tables with women tying flies all day. Times have change and that has stopped. Which has provided room for more fishing gear! It is worth stopping in here, even if you aren't into fishing to see just what cool toys they have out there for fishing people. Plus, how many freaking types of flies that are out there. Better than the water slide in Big Timber any day.

Plus, great sale rack. And, they have locally hand painted 16-ounce glasses. The "feature" on each of the glasses is different. Four types of local fish, but it isn't a case of the fish is painted on the glass, it is just the side of the fish, no head or tail, and if you don't know the local fish, you wouldn't know what is on the glass. If that makes sense. Either way, I don't know what the fish is, only that it looks cool. Worth the purchase, even if it wasn't on the sale rack.
