Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The road will turn to gravel but just keep driving... You'll eventually run into Beartooth wildlife maintenance area. Can camp there in designated areas for free. Be prepared! My visit was very windy so I didn't care light a fire but experienced the most beautiful Montana night sky I've ever seen in my life! Mountain lions etc are in the area so don't get off the beaten track lol! Holter lake is also beautiful but crowded... Not many camping opportunities.

Camp host extremely rude and obnoxious stating that we had not occupied our trailer while it was in the campground as some other had done to save the spot for the weekend. We made it clear to him that we had stayed there each night and fished the river during the day, but it was apparent he didn’t believe us thus ruining our last night there. He proceeded to mow our area as we sat in our lawn chairs and watched this arrogant little man continue to promote his authority over us! I hope he is not there next year! Other than that, it truly is a great campground.

Yes, it is beautiful, The Lake is clear, scenery, well, breathtaking, especially at dawn and dusk. This place has most everything, except showers. I would have rated this a 5 star, but when you have a lot of people vying for space, they can become rude and intolerable, close proximity, you can hear a lot, children crying, talking( although they respected the "quiet time" you can still hear) it gets really active during the day, swimming area gets packed because it's enclosed, if you want to get away and enjoy peace and quiet go midweek or another area fort her down to Little Log, has 5/8 spaces you will still have the lake and enclosed swimming boating dock. Holter Lake is a great place for fun and people.

The campground is beautiful and well maintained but the camp hosts are the rudest we’ve ever encountered. They harassed us non stop all weekend. All we wanted to do was have a place to camp at night and fish during the day. The hosts harassed us saying we didn’t stay the first night at the campsite, which we did. They harassed us about the location of a tent in one of the campgrounds. The woman even told us they didn’t want our kind there. We are middle aged and were not causing any problems and we always leave a clean campsite. These camp hosts need to be replaced with hosts who aren’t power playing!

We've lived in Montana for over 20 years. We go once a year for a day or two.
We went to our family favorite camp spot. 8am, was greetd by two elderly people who told us 5$ per-day, per-person.
We told them no it's never been like that. Instead of explaining the new rules and the fact the state came in.
We were insaulted with
"You city folk wouldn't know"
City? We're from a small town. Looking to get away from work and family.
10$ for two people staying for the "DAY"....
Wish we knew that.
But you didn't tell us it's 15$ for a night.
We left as you asked and found an ATM and got the ""10$""
Came back set up camp. Relaxed.
Who rolls up? The elderly couple. Did you pay? Fill this out. Did you know?
By the way it's 15$ to camp.
Well you got no information from us and 10$
It got worse.. they drove though every hour&half to harass people and tell us about this or that.
Worst part, My husband and I work everyday a week non-stop. Do you think we want to talk to you? Or deal with people?
We knew it was annoying, but when our dog started growing at the arrival of you two..... really?
She is a quite wonderful, no barking dog who loves everyone.
But she sure didn't like the harassment either.
When they wern't around we had a Great Time!
Sun. Views. Hiking. Watching people catch fish. Swimming. Cooking. <3
FYI. Bring 20-60$ for "fees"
Expect- Watching harassment lake Holter Jerry Springer from your tent or RV.

I have done all the major west National parks on the same road trip as dropping on Holter Lake. I thought none were as startling . It had the compactness , tranquility, beauty , people but only a few . A total suprise . If ever go back t USA this will be on the agenda for a longer stay .

This campsite located between Helena and Great Falls Montana is a nice way to leave the interstate and find a lovely setting without driving too far off the main double lane.
The road from the Wolf Creek exit is a narrow but paved highway and we did not expect to find such a well tended campsite. The sites are large and flat with plenty of room to park your boat beside your RV.
There is no electric hookups but water taps are easily available .
Lake front spots offer a beautiful view .
Many deer frequent the area.
The rate is only $15 per night and he campground hosts are very nice.

It is so awesome to have a place so beautiful that is so close to town. Within 10 minutes from stores and restaurants you can be in the water or sitting by it enjoying the bald eagles flying by and the wonderful scenery.

I have rented from this establishment for approximately 5 years and everything was ok, not the greatest, but ok. The parking there is almost non existent. The facilities, not the storage racks, are is disrepair. The place is dirty from mud/dirt drive. Gas is over 4dollars a gallon and everything there is 100-150% markup! The mechanic on site, which forced me to vacate, is new and very reckless with boats both in dirty service and putting you boat in the water!!! The have left the owner a message for a call to inform him of our service there for this mechanic and support staff disinterest and he or she has not returned my call. The mechanic is not trustworthy and is not professional!!! My rent there went up to 1350.00 yr. Boat was always dusty but this mechanic recently let my boat fill up with dirt and did not care to try to cleanup after servicing it!! I will never personally do any more business with this establishment at least until they improve the customer experience which I doubt will be met anytime soon! Good luck you all!

Fished here one day and caught 22 20+ Rainbows and Brown trout. A bit windy in afternoon...21MPH steady gusting to 30+
Loved every minute of it, and cannot wait to be back. Beautiful lake and surrounds and so easy to get to.....right off I-15 in 5mins.

Does the campground on Holter Lake fill up after Labor Day? I understand that they do not take reservations on the camp sites on Holter only on Big Sandy on Houser Lake. We would not want to tow a boat and drive a motor home for over 100 miles only to have the sites all taken. We were thinking maybe better to try mid Sept.?

Pretty much always busy year round.BLM needs to make this an online reservation site to take the stress away of being able to get a camp site, stressful after driving and dragging an RV/ boat a long ways only to not get a camp spot
