Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely area for bird watching, kayaking and hiking. However, the leafy spurge, noxious weeds, located on the east end of the reservoir need to be sprayed/eradicated. There are a few patches now but it will soon overwhelm the surrounding area if not addressed quickly.

We decided to go the Helena Valley Reservoir. It was a bit far from the city, buy it was worthwhile.

When we arrived, we were greeted with lots of yellow flowers.

There was a shelter there as well.

However, the best part was the Helena Valley Reservoir. It was gorgeous!

We had lots of reflections in the reservoir.

There were mountains nearby.

Before I left, I saw an antelope.

In riding around the Helena area we visited Helena River Reservoir which is about 4 miles out of town to the west of the Canyon Ferry Dam on the big Missouri.Even though it provides Helena drinking water and water for irrigation, it is used for recreation like fishing and boating. Nice place for our picnic lunch.

Access is somewhat limited but there are picnic tables for those brave enough to face the mosquitoes.

Even out of summer or migration season the varied habitats seem to be good for birds. It’s quite a long walk all the way around, with quite a long section away from the water’s edge (maybe 5-6 miles in all?), but definitely worthwhile for interested birders.

I enjoy walking the short trails that lead around the reservoir. The reservoir attracts many waterfowl, resident and migrating, throughout the year.

Motorized boats are prohibited on the water as are swimming dogs. Fishing, kayaking, and just watching the beautiful sunsets across the Helena valley are reasons to visit.

A little swampy, and the wind is going to blow. Access is not great. The north side can get a little muddy.

Whether you want to fish, hike, paddle board, bike or kayak, there is no shortage of outdoor activities. There is a five-mile trail that goes around the entire reservoir for those that don't want to get on the water and for those that do there is plenty to explore. No motor boats allowed which makes it perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. What are you waiting for?
