Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are several smaller shops in town, but this one has the largest selection of souvenirs. They also sell ice cream here. I found this shop to be expensive. I found a few of the same items for less at the smaller shops. The town is so small and easily walkable, so I compared prices before purchasing.

Nice shop, lots of variety. Close to Mammoth Hot Springs. Trinkets and souvenirs cheaper outside the park. Picturesque little town, surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

Nice souvenir shop just outside of Yellowstone park. Offers a good selection of clothing, stuffed animals, jewellery, knick-knacks, gifts, ice cream and chocolates.

We came down here after we discovered Mammoth Hot Springs terrace wasn't doing hand scooped ice cream. We were happy with the ice cream we found here. Huckleberry was so good! The sizes are large. We should have ordered 1 dip for everyone. My only complaint is the workers seemed flustered by our group of 8 showing up while there was already a group of 3 ahead of us. It took quite a while for one person to get all of our ice cream. We also picked up a delicious huckleberry chocolate bar.

Stopped here looking for a couple Yellowstone trinkets to bring back to the family. This shop is clean and well organized with a nice selection. Prices are about what you'd expect and generally a bit less than you'd pay inside the park. They have a lovely chocolate counter and as you might guess a lot of huckleberry treats!

I appreciate that they are following the governor's order and requiring masks. They also have ample hand sanitizer throughout the store.

Though Karen in the prior review may have been upset that she had to wear a mask for 20 minutes, it's important to me that they are taking my health and the health of others seriously!

For 15 years, since 2005, this was one of our favorite Yellowstone-area gift shops: No more! Sometime recently, there must have been an ownership/management change, because inside, it’s nearly unrecognizable. The lay-out is completely different, & many categories of items are no longer offered for sale here.

The downstairs part of the gift shop is gone—the stairs have been covered by cheap laminate flooring...This store was crammed with all sorts of goodies, & now, it has maybe a 1/3 of the merchandise—& the prices have gone up noticeably—probably to pay for the remodeling!

What’s really unrecognizable & remarkable is that they insist on making everyone—regardless of protected, confidential health information covered by federal laws under HIPAA 1996 & the ADA—to wear masks inside! Well, too bad, so sad, because the only “masks” we can wear, if need be, are oxygen masks, while hospitalized!

So with our items to purchase in hand, this tall, blonde, obnoxious female employee with a thick, foreign accent—who possibly is a manager or the new owner—very loudly told us we had endangered everyone inside by not wearing masks! We had been shopping in the store for 20 minutes, with no confrontations or issues!

She said we had to leave immediately: We were at her counter to check out, so we smiled & calmly asked, “Can we purchase these items first?” She said, “NO!”, so we laid their merchandise on the counter, & told her, “Your policy violates our rights guaranteed under HIPAA & the ADA, & the first violation is a $75,000 fine—are you sure we can’t do business, as we’ve been great customers here ever since 2005?” She said, “NO!” So we told her, “OK, but we’ll never be back, & I’m reporting you to the ADA.”

She clearly gave no clue that she cared what HIPAA or the ADA are, but she’s about to find out that “ignorance is no excuse”.

We stepped outside, & couldn’t believe how angry she was—& then another couple came up to us, & said, “We agree with you 100%! We can’t believe how she spoke to you, so we walked up to the counter & laid more than $50 worth of souvenirs down & told her we wouldn’t buy anything after how she treated you!”

We were touched by their gesture, & their principles in action. We had a nice chat for a few minutes, & went on our way: We pity that woman, whether she’s the owner, a manager, or one of the retail employees. She overstepped her authority, & yes, I am reporting her & the entire incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon at 5:30 pm, Friday, 7/24/20, to the ADA.

There are plenty of great T-shirt, coffee, & ice cream shops all over West Yellowstone at the West Gate; there are several great stores open inside Yellowstone itself!

The very best T-Shirt/sweatshirt/coffee mug souvenir shop, hands down, is the Yellowstone Trading Post in Cooke City, Montana—just past Lamar Valley & the Northeast Gate at Silver Gate! They have many of the same merchandise items you’ll see inside the park—at substantially less $$!

Enjoy your trip to the world’s first National Park! (Don’t allow anyone to spoil your day—we didn’t; we pity her & this once-terrific shopping destination near the North Gate. Several of the photos below are of the town’s main intersection corner, where long-time tourist-oriented businesses were wiped out by a large fire 10 days ago; she mistakenly thinks she can afford to demean & mistreat customers with money in hand!)

Ma'am, I am the General Manager here at Yellowstone Gifts and Sweets. I was made aware of the situation that happened and you left out some pertinent information in your review. The fact is that everyone needs to wear a mask while inside the establishment, which is made clear in the many, many signs all over the store. An easy fix would be just wear the mask...I know its an annoyance but if you can't abide by our policy (mandated by the Governor btw) then you may shop somewhere else. Show some courtesy to the rest of our patrons. You neglected to say in your review that you tried to take my sales associates picture. THAT is against the law. Apparently you think that you are above the law. These are tough times and my employees have to mask up ALL DAY. 20 minutes of your time wearing a mask shouldn't be that big of a deal that you are making it into. Also, how can you not believe how angry she was? You treated her very unkindly as many patrons witnessed, as well as another employee that was working that day. We deal with people like you all day every day, and In no way were your rights violated under HIPPA. Good luck trying to have us fined by the ADA... It's store policy to wear a mask and we have every right to ask you to leave if you refuse to wear one I will not apologize for wanting to keep my patrons and employees safe. Have a nice day

There was a lot to see here in this shop. My kids had a great time looking at all the rocks and toys. I took my time looking at souvenirs. Excellent chocolate here! I thought the prices were reasonable and service was excellent. I’m glad we stopped in.

This shop does a nice job of having a few things. Similar to much of what is in the park without the crowds.

OK place but the same stuff was every where. I particularly like buying at the Park centers. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
