Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

These guys always deliver. It was our latest of many visits. Go in, load up on the flies they suggest. And fish where they say to go. Be sure to book your float trip many weeks in advance. Their guides really are the best. They accommodate my wife, a beginning fly fisher, and me, and I have been fly fishing for over fifty years.

This time they were "johnny on the spot" and helped me with an excellent selection of a replacement rod for the one I broke. Great rod. Good price.

Staff disinterested. Zero help when setting up trip and particulars. Having fly fished since 1986 all over the US, (as well as this area of MT numerous times) and several areas of the Caribbean I have had exemplary service and I have had service that was blah.. however I have never been insulted as I was with this outfit. So I strongly recommend not using them and especially if you are female. I am an avid Hunter owning various bird dogs .. and angler on a slightly lesser area.. in my 50 + years of life I have never been met with such dismissive & flippant attitude & that is saying a bit..maybe you shouldn’t let your staff drink on the job if they are not responsible or seasoned enough to remain professional.
This is my first negative review I have ever posted so that also says a bit

David was a phenomenal guide, teacher, and we really appreciated him putting in so much work to truly make it a custom trip for us. Both first time fly fishers, he instructed us start to finish during our trip and gave gentle reminders on the basics. He was very patient with us. Although the scenery and conversation would’ve been worth it in itself; the 20 or so cutthroat made the trip that much more memorable. David communicated well prior to us arriving and made all the accommodations very easy for us. The trip was very custom to us it felt and we really appreciated that. Would absolutely recommend this company and would encourage people to request David by name, although I’m sure all the guides are great! Certainly won’t be our last trip!

What a phenomenal day! While I have fished a lot in different parts of the world, I had never fly fished. Nolan was SOOO patient and good natured. He has find his calling in life! He was delightful to get to know and an excellent teacher. We caught lots of fish on a private lake with a gorgeous view of the mountains. He had a great sense of humor, especially when he jokingly advised me that I was scaring him with my casting! A stellar day!

Nolan was our guide. He was a blast and very patient. We caught a bunch of fish and learned about fly fishing. I highly recommend this outfitter and Nolan.

I had an unfortunate and unnecessary encounter with a young guide from Anglers West yesterday. I was deliberately "bumped out of his way" with his boat while at a boat launch as he drifted up behind me. He then proceeded to instructed me on proper ramp Etiquette.
What the young guide was unaware of is that I had beached my boat directly beside the ramp in order to load and assist a 76 yr old disabled veteran, who is mostly wheelchair bound, and his wife. The guide might be better served by understanding that the world is bigger than just him and some circumstances negate regular ramp procedures. Practicing patients, kindness and understanding rather than arrogance and boldness may serve him better in the future.

I fished two days with Anglers West guides last week. Both did a great job. Stoneflies in the morning and hoppers in the afternoon. I am an experienced fly fisherman, so having real pros on the oars makes all the difference. Craig and Zack both made the days a lot of fun.

Fly fishing on the Yellowstone was less than mediocre on July 27. Besides catching ONLY two fish myself and maybe two bites (let's chalk this up to a SUPER tough day) - the guide rarely changed out my flies or gave me direction. He might have thought that - BECAUSE I was a fly fisherwoman - meaning I have done it before, or thought I didn't want it or need it - I don't know. My son did catch more and he was in the front of the boat.

When booking qualify the guide with Gardner - and ensure the guide can give direction to BOTH people on the boat and change out rigs and make small talk. It makes a difference - especially on the days the fish are not eating.

These guys really know how to fly fish and more importantly how to teach others to fly fish. We had a party of 5 and they split us up in 3 boats. My guide, Ryan, was great with my 12 year old daughter and I who had absolutely zero experience fly fishing. He made it so easy and coached us the whole way. We caught 14 fish and had a blast! They also provided us with a delicious lunch, and plenty of drinks. It was an all around great day on the river and I highly recommend using them for your fly fishing experience!

Friendly, knowledgable and just a good place to stop in for advice, guides and equipment. With the 'Stone a walk away you can get into the water quickly and easily. And then a bonus is "replace fluids" at the Old Saloon next door.
