Having spotted the signpost in Piopio (not having been aware of the site previously), we took a chance on booking and ended up on a tour consisting of four visitors.

Signposting made the site easy to find, and good access for a large camper.

Thanks to Suzie for a great tour experience, very welcoming and personal. Time spent chatting through all of the key scenes/locations, as well as a lot of detail on the local landscape and the challenges of farming in the area - and the history of the site.

Highly recommended whether you’re a fan of the Tolkien movies/series or not, but especially if you are! A definite highlight of our North Island road trip, and if our travels bring us back this way in the future then it’s extremely likely that Hairy Feet will be back on the itinerary

I was welcomed very warmly by Suzie. Her enthusiasm for the tour and the lord of the rings franchise really shines through and made this tour really special.
Before the tour starts you have the opportunity to pose with replicas of some of the swords featured in the Hobbit movie.
After a short slideshow (giving you background knowledge of the film location) we boarded a minibus and headed to the start of the tour route. Suzie then guided us (only 2 of us in the group!) around the various locations giving detailed knowledge of the film locations, firsthand encounters with the cast and crew, and also interesting information on the working farm.
The tour lasts about 90 minutes and has a well stocked gift shop for all your middle earth needs. You have plenty of time for photos and the scenery is stunning. This was well worth the trip. Thanks again!

My wife is a fan of both the novel "The Trilogy of The Lords of the Rings" and the film adaptations made by Sir Peter Jackson. So this year we decided to finally visit this beautiful country. We booked the tour at Happy Feet Waitomo Piopio and we're truly satisfied even me who had never read nor watched the films. Susie and her husband were professional, competent and gave us the true feeling of the experience since you could say they were "behind the scenes". Our booking was for 10 but we got lost getting there and kindly asked if we could still do it. No problem even being 2 hours late Susie took us on the tour. Being there, seeing where each shot was filmed was breathtaking and the landscape was really worth it. We both recommend this tour whether your a fan like my wife or a "non-fan" like me.

I loved seeing all of the locations here used in the Hobbit filming. The owners are so very knowledgeable and passionate about their home, and it really shines through. Loved seeing the remnants from filming (including a blocking spot for Martin Freeman) and where Gandalf split the stone to allow "the sun (to) take you all"!

Our lovely female tour guide (sorry I forgot your name!) was incredibly welcoming and started the tour by taking some photos of us with her props. The tour group was the perfect size, there were six of us in total. Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the area, the land and the filming; she shared many stories with us from her personal experience.

Very kindly.. I was handed one of her lambs to hold and this made me very happy. The tour guide had a little book of pictures from the filming so we could put into perspective which scenes happened where, it is all really recognisable! We had pictures taken reenacting the film. I can't believe how beautiful the area was and how worthwhile this tour is to The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings fans. Excellent value for money and tour guide was exceptional in every aspect.

We ended up getting lucky, and Susie booked us in, even though there were no tours going on the day we were in NZ. She met us at the shop, and immediately I knew we were going to have a great time on her beautiful farm. Susie and her husband worked extremely hard to put together a cohesive and scenic tour around the property where multiple scenes were shot and it shows. She has little hidden treasures around the property, so make sure to be on the look out! She was very knowledgeable of the movies and scenes which made it all the more pleasant to recreate some of them. I would recommend if you're going around NZ and going to see other sites, make sure to check out Hairy Feet!

If you are going to New Zealand you have to go on this tour!! Suzie was such a great guide and had so many personal antidotes from the filming of the hobbit. She was super knowledgable and happy to share her stories. From the dog that greets you at the door to the great gift shop at the end, this tour was so special. It reinvigorated the series for me and makes me love New Zealand even more.
Thanks again Suzie!

One of the best tours I have done about the LOTR/Hobbit movies. The owners of the land were kind and gave an in depth account of the making of the movies on their property as you walk and stood where the actors actually stood. A must for all LOTR fans!!!!

A WONDERFUL experience! We were lucky enough to get a tour where we were the only people, but it would've been stunning regardless!

Suzie took us through the farm and explained all the workings of the area and the considerations for sheep farming - which was super interesting! We met Dora the lamb and some other sheep, and were lucky enough to feed the lambs!!

The view of the hobbit filming sites was awesome and Suzie took the time to take photos of us in the various movie poses and even kitted out the areas with swords for the photos! A lot of effort has been put into forming paths to the various areas whilst not disturbing the environment integrity. Suzie also took a lot of care to explain and show the images from the movie that align with the areas along the trails.

Suzie was able to share fun behind the scenes images and anecdotes that even a die hard Hobbit fan wouldnt know!

The scenery was truly beautiful and the variety of landscapes in the small area is mind-blowing! Suzie was very knowledgeable in the geological significance of the area and was more than happy to take us to spots that showed stunning views! There was even a little track where you can wonder solo and take in the scenery.

They have a lovely little gift shop for pressies for loved ones too or a souvenir to remember! We rate this one as high as Hobbiton and loved our time there!!

This was the first tour we did on our self guided trek throughout New Zealand to see Lord of the Rings filming locations. Suzie was absolutely wonderful as a guide. We loved hearing about her time being a part of the Hobbit filming on her family's farm. The scenery is absolutely breath-taking. Highly recommend making the drive out to this tour if you can!
