Peaceful well maintained area
Aug 2020
Visited here last weekend. Very peaceful and well maintained old cemetery.
Just a short ferry ride across the harbour from Whitianga (or you can take the longer route and drive).

Best kept cemetery
Mar 2020
We stumbled across the cemetery once we got off the ferry and were heading for a walk. It is the best kept cemetery we've ever seen.
The lawns were mowed, no weeds anywhere. Just a delight to walk around and see how tidy and clean it was.

Ther are some very old plots here to be discovered. They have some of the most spectacular views in the Corromandels.

Nice views & interesting place
Oct 2019
This cemetery is located on the top of a hill with great views over Whitianga Beach. It houses some really old headstones as well as more recent ones. An interesting place to explore but wear suitable footwear, it’s a bit slushy underfoot.

Historic Walk

Just a short ferry ride over from Whitianga unless you have driven around to Cooks Beach the cemetery is just above Ferry Landing.

Impressive views of Whitianga and Mercury Bay.

Well kept and maintained, this cemetery dates to 1800s and has many of the locals buried here.

They used and I’m not sure if they still do but the coffins were brought across from Whitianga by the Ferry.

Large RSA block as well.

Other walks and cafes are near by.

Lovely history.

Historical Cemetery
May 2019 • Couples
Just a short walk up a sealed path from Ferry Landing Wharf is the Mercury Bay Cemetery, the cemetery is divided into two sections, the new and the old, we wandered around the grassy slopes of the Historical section. Anecdotal evidence reveals that the cemetery was used from the early 1800s, with many of the district's pioneers being buried here. This section which is located closest to the ferry had some headstones and unmarked graves.
