Amazing rock formations

The walk to the rocks and blowholes is really well set out with great vantage points along the way. High tide is a good time to visit so you get the full effect of the blowholes.

A nice stop, exciting for all ages and great cafes for a rest. Try to get there at high tide but even low tide is amazing! Cannot believe all these stops and walks are free!

The Pancake Rocks & Blowhole is located half way up the western seaboard on Hwy 6 near Punakaiki, NZ. Limited parking just off the highway, so you might need to drive past the visitors center a bit. These rock formations are very unique, due to the wind, salt, water, and the seismic action over the years to solidify the rocks... More

Just off the main highway, and free, the Pancake Rocks walk is carefully laid out with attention to the spectacular views of rock crags and cliffs. The cafe and the information centre across the road are both excellent.

Was an awesome place to swing by- I remember coming past as a kid. When we came through for the first time, my partner loved it! Wasn't even at high tide (my bad). Coming back had an all new appreciation for the history and science behind it- pearler of a place

The Blow Holes only do so at High tide so if you are not lucky enough (or plan well enough) to catch it at High Tide you will not see them. But there are plenty of other things to see. Very Nice paved walkway with excellent views of the geologic formations. There can be a lot of tourists there so... More

We were driving up the west coast and came to Punakaiki. Seeing the pancake rocks was a must do event. The walk out to the rocks is a loop trail that has many viewing stops along the way. It takes about 45 minutes to make the loop. About 2/3 of the way around are some steps so if you have... More

We drove the long ws to Nelson in oredr to see the rocks and were not disappointed in fact we wished we had stayed here instead of Hokitika, The coast line is stunning all the way and the rocks look amazing all in layers , then the waves came and the spray shot out of the blow holes great fun... You get to see the pancake rocks closer and we have different view points to watch. The attractions is awesome as the waves keep hitting the pancake rocks. The rocks are formed by several layers and it's really astonishing to imagine how it is formed. The walkway leading to this attraction is nicely maintained and no don't charge anything for... More
