The Machine Shop is legendary for hard rock acts, and many bigger names come back to the place where they first took off— Lzzy and Arejay Hale made a “drop in” appearance for a couple of songs with Highly Suspect when we were there about a year back! Standing room only, they do get REALLY crowded, so if you have an issue with personal space, don’t go up in the front 1/3. Most bands will greet fans after concert, and security is very tight—they will remove anyone being belligerent. Ages 18 and up only. We are there 2-3 times a month on average. They don’t sell food, but taco truck during summer for some concerts! Cheap drinks!…

This was our first time here and I've heard good things from people about this venue. I've also heard bad things about the surrounding area, but I was dead set on seeing my girl Ashley McBryde. Never once did I feel unsafe. They had plenty of staff to serve drinks, and security was constantly walking around making sure all was good. It is standing room only unless you have a medical condition. Mind you this was a country music concert and not a hard rock etc. concert, so totally different clientele ~…

The Machine Shop opened up 15 years ago in Flint+it’s a the “top of the heap” where concert venues are concerned. The place isn’t terribly big,so you can always feel like you’re close to the band. You can see+listen to well known famous bands like Kid Rock,Clutch,David Allan Coe,etc and up+coming bands like Citizen Zero,+also real good local talent. The sound system is excellent,Clutch actually recorded their “Live in Flint Mi.” album there. The bar can get busy, but the staff is sharp+super friendly,so you won’t wait long+the security pays attention, but doesn’t walk around posturing like a goon squad! The bathrooms accommodate a big crowd+it’s worth getting there early+checking out the paraphernalia all around the lounge. There’s plenty of parking+ the “Shop” is located right off Dort hwy, just inside the Flint boundary, about 5 miles off the exit on I-75 north. We never hesitate to drive up from Detroit/Downriver to see a show,it’s well worth it!…

Wow, cool concert location. No seating, small, and okay if you can see past the crowd. If you're vertically challenged get there early so your near (5') the stage. We saw Jackyl, and there was no seating. Oh, and leave your coat in the car. Plenty warm inside, and no coat check.
