A park that has seen better days. They put a baseball diamond in the middle of the fort. That was weird. The town looks well off compared to surrounding towns yet this place seems like it's ignored. The lawn isn't even mowed. Don't go out...More

I totally enjoyed walking around the Fort grounds. My son a history buff, love reading and seeing the grounds. If your traveling with children it's a great place for them to run around.

The cannons (18th century are still here and you can walk around and have a great view of the harbor. there are stairs to go down to the water's edge. Stop at Markel's for sandwiches and have a picnic. Good for couples or families.

It park isn't much in itself, but you get a nice history lesson from the readings. Earthworks are still standing and you get a bit of the feeling of what it may have been like "way back then".

Ft George isn't actually a park but a historical site. The remains of a late 18th century fort are still in place, lots of room for kids to clamber around and the views on a clear day are quite good.

Castine has a complex relationship with the British Empire, both in the Revolutionary War (greatest US naval defeat before Pearl Harbor) and (especially) the War of 1812. Fort George (named after a British king) is an earthwork fort, with a baseball diamond in one corner,...More
