Overview
More
Royaumont Abbey was founded in 1228 by Louis IX, the future Saint Louis, with the support of his mother, Blanche of Castile. Richly endowed by the king, who enjoyed spending time there, the Abbey achieved great renown in the 13th century. In the 1930s, Henry Goüin decided to open Royaumont to struggling artists and intellectuals. The project was made permanent 26 years later, in 1964, with the establishment of a foundation, the Fondation Royaumont (Goüin-Lang) pour le Progrès des Sciences de l'Homme. Thus in the course of the 20th century, having previously served as a monastery, a textile factory, a village and a noviciat, the Abbey was transformed into an important venue for gatherings of several generations of French and foreign intellectuals working in the humanities and music, and eventually became an internationally renowned centre of artistic research, training and production.

Stayed here for 2 nights while attending a wedding reception. The grounds and the abbey are amazing - well restored serene quiet. The rooms are quite big and the bath is quite good too. If you are looking for a quiet weekend this is the...More

As noted, you need a car to get here as it is well off the beaten path. It is a beautiful build, set in idyllic grounds. When we visited there were many musicians dotted about practicing for afternoon and evening concerts. This added to the...More

The structure was built in the 13 century, not all of it remains, but the main components are well maintained. Take a guided visit. Several events are organized all through the year. Have a look at their website. Accessible by road only.

Very beautiful structure with a rich history. Reserve a guide to walk you through and ask to see the Chapter room which is now used as a library. The guide is also helpful in explaining the story behind the demolition of the church. We could...More

You need a car to get there because it's really hidden in the country. But if you like old stones, you'll find some good History there. You should book in advance to hire a guided tour ( available in English). Please note that the Abbey...More

This is a wonderful conference / hotel in the "cheateauform", which basically means a jaw dropping location with gluttonously wonderful cuisines that you are treated as if it is your second home. - food was exceptional! - wine was fantastic - bonus points for Lagavulin!...More

The site is beautiful, but you get to see only a little of what it actually is. The most is closed to visit, reserved as a location to private expensive events. The part you can visit is also used as a location for artistic events....More

Hello, Which "music conference" your son is attending to in august? If he is an intern following a training course, he will be hosted in Royaumont Abbey. Thanks in advance. Honorine from Royaumont Foundation
