About
Family owned vineyard & winery situated in the dramatic Gibbston sub-region of Central Otago, New Zealand. Sean Brennan launched the label in 2006 with the intention of producing limited quantities of iconic, aged Pinot Noir that truly represent the potential of this exceptional site. Arrived to a lukewarm greeting; were asked if we had a booking and when we said no, we were then treated as if we should not be there. All we asked was to have a glass of wine and sit on the grass outside, no lunch or tasting. We were twice told to wait and then after 10 minutes it still seemed impossible to get a glass of wine each. Another group of 5 were also treated the same and in the end it seemed like so much trouble for the sour faced staff that we all left and headed back to Mt Rosa wines where 30 minutes earlier we had been treated so well. From conversations with others Brennan seems to have a bit of a reputation for this type of service.

We apologise for your experience.
As we explained when you arrived the Cellar Door was fully booked. We were happy to accommodate you but as advised, there would be a delay in service as we were looking after other guests at the time.
It is therefore disappointing to read your comments about our staff and small business.
Please be aware that it is online comments like these that make retaining staff in an already stretched industry even more challenging.
We would be very happy to offer you a personal guided wine tasting and to show you through our range of wines . Please contact us at the Cellar Door on 03 442 4315 to make a booking. Open daily 11am - 5pm.

We had an excellent personalised wine tasting experience at Brennan. Amongst the many wonderful Gibbston Valley wineries this boutique & world award winning winery was our firm favourite. The warm welcome, fireside tastings of delectable wines, easy banter with knowledgeable staff - and all at such an excellent price (we discovered to our delight that tastings are free with the purchase of two bottles of wine). The B2 was an exceptional & award winning Pinot noir 🍷. We’ll be back on our next visit to Queenstown

We cycled from Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley for a full day of wine tasting. The cellar door at Brennan Wines was a bit further off the wine trail than the others we visited, but it was definitely worth it. The grounds were beautiful, with a vineyard bordering the outdoor seating area, roses in full bloom at the end of each row of grape vines, and majestic mountains rising in the background. Our hosts were friendly and knowledgeable and the wines we sampled were excellent.

We had a great experience visiting Brennan Wines on a wine tour yesterday. The staff were really lovely and took their time explaining the tasting notes & differences in each wine. They were also very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We purchased 3 bottles of wine and can’t wait to open them when we get back to AUS. Thanks so much for having us!

Always a pleasure to visit this winery and taste the vintages on offer.
We have been returning every time we come south and have never been disappointed.
Wine is always superb. We had a wonderful lunch there too.
It was raining so we were not able to sit out in their pleasant outdoor area.
Friendly service

Wonderful little winery was a welcome respite after our bike ride.
The tasting selection was excellent and the accompanying food offerings really hit the spot.
The pétanque court in the garden area was a hit as well. We settled in with a bottle of Tempranillo and could have stayed all afternoon!

We had a top notch experience at Brennan. The wines were excellent. They served a Zinfandel was very different from a traditional zin. It was light with some tannins & spice. They also served a number of delicious pinot noirs. We particularly loved the B2, which won awards, and the 2017. The staff was fantastic, welcoming, knowledgeable and super accommodating to our last minute schedule change. They even hooked us up with a driver to take us tasting the rest of the day. Thanks Brennan for an awesome experience!!!

We arrived on bikes which we left outside, there were 3 people at the bar when we walked in. A very hostile blond lady behind the bar turned to us and spoke to us as if addressing naughty children: ‘move your bikes onto the cycle racks for me.’ There was no ‘hello’ no ‘welcome’ no ‘are you here for a wine tasting?’ Just a curt ‘Move your bikes’
My reaction was to leave and go to the Mt Rosa winery directly opposite where we were met with ‘you look hot, please take a seat and I’ll get you some water.’
The moral of the story is that we told six other people and groups on bikes to take care with Brennan wines, these people make money from charging for tastings and selling wine, we purchased wine in every winery except Brennan .
It’s a little sad when you feel unwelcome at the door.

Tucked away on a country lane you will find Brennan Winery. We actually stumbled apron it, but boy, we were so glad we did. The cellar door is inviting and the staff are very informative about the region, it's wines and the winery history, as well as very knowledgeable about their wines. We had a range of whites and reds, the Pinot Noirs are to die for.... The best I've had in the region so far out of 10 wineries visited in the area. If you want to really taste the superb pilots of the region, you can't afford to miss this place.

This was the nicest winery we visited in the Queenstown region during our trip. It's nestled amongst the mountains away from the road and the picnic tables are surrounded by vines. We had a toddler with us so appreciated the open grass, petanque gravel and toy basket which was inside the tasting room. The platter was amazing, by far the largest we had seen at a winery and excellent value for money. The tasting was relaxed and the wines were delicious, great staff too.
