Wonderfully creative. We saw a Van Gogh exhibit in The Netherlands years ago but are by no means art experts or even regular exhibit or museum visitors. This was so different, so new, that the inventiveness and work that went into creating the exhibit and conforming it to the Germania space was marvelous. I moved around the rooms and space and each provided another perspective. Music chosen with obvious precision to match the displays. Not being Chicagoans we bought the tickets that were less restrictive on time, slightly more expensive but we arrived early with no problem. We stayed through two complete showings, with the program lasting 35 minutes each time. Could have stayed longer. We visited with a teenage granddaughter in July. Were able to walk from our hotel, about a mile and a half, with the site located in an attractive neighborhood. One downside, the exhibitors did not provide enough seating. I realize that many sat on the floor or stood, but that did not accommodate seniors, people with physical limitations, or families. We had an employee clear us off steps , where many people were viewing, with few alternatives other than the floor. Anxious to see what artist receives this type of treatment next.

I think it's best not to read a lot of reviews of the exhibit because each person comes to the presentation with a different background and interest in art and a different expectation. I can see how some would think it was only worth $10 and others, like my friend and myself, got very involved in the show and felt it was worth the price. Because we enjoyed the presentation, use of graphics, and music, we stayed for three shows. We watched the first in one of the large rooms, then went to the small room for the second viewing, and lastly went up to the balcony for our last presentation. Each space gave us a different perspective of the experience. I personally liked viewing the show in the large room where my friend enjoyed it the most from the balcony. Each viewing also allowed us to catch little nuances that we didn't see before. Naturally, one wants to take photos and videos of the performance, however, this is where one (I'm speaking here for myself) can get too involved in getting the "best" shot and miss a lot of the details (again, this was another reason we stayed for three shows). I personally got caught up in some of the music. Whoever put the presentation together, did an excellent job with the sound track. You can find the track online. Overall, I thought it was a unique and pleasurable experience.

I initially saw this exhibit on Emily in Paris (A Netflix Series) not knowing that it would be shortly coming to Chicago!!!
We waited a few months for the "hype" to die down and choose a quiet Friday afternoon for our visit. We booked our SpotHero parking space, less than $10 and only a few blocks from the Lighthouse ArtSpace located in the Germania Club. BTW: Germania Place is a very small block and if you blink, you will have walked by it.
Our tickets were for 11AM and yes, we did miss Germania Place initially and had to back track :( No worries, the attendant was super friendly and he said we could either wait in the very swanky lounge or go right in and start our Immersive experience.
Heck Yes! We went right in, I couldn't wait any longer. The experience is in 3 rooms. While we watched the "video" from all 3 rooms, we preferred the Balcony for optimum viewing.
It's AWEmazing!!! First off choose a spot and just relax and sit back and enjoy the calming music while watercolors magically float onto the floor and walls.
The video is about 20 minutes and we watched 3 rotations to fully enjoy the Immersive experience.
I loved the cute Van GO decor located thru out the exhibit. There's a quaint cafeteria, a classy gift shop (a little pricey: 3 magnets $40!) but, hey how often will you be immersed in this Van Gogh experience?

My family was overwhelmed with this spectacular audio/ visual presentation of the works of one of the greatest painters of all times, Victor Van Gogh. The approximately 20- minute program explores the artist’s many themes and subjects with the extraordinary use of color, strokes, pallet and finishes to create forever masterpieces. In the rooms the audience is totally surrounded on all four walls with the vivid and sometimes moving replications enhanced by wonderful and thematic music to explore Van Gogh’s soul and intent. It is a fantastic presentation that will move you and create a desire for more.
One warning is that we saw many young couples with babies. The music can be quite loud and may not be the best for young ears. Note: all the rooms present the same show so it doesn’t matter where you are although the balcony, accessible from the entry area, allows totally unencumbered viewing. It is not inexpensive at about $60 per ticket, but well worth the unusual experience!

I went to the exhibit in Phoenix. I was shocked that this event charged $40-$50 per person and it was just a video (maybe 20-30 minutes) of Van Gogh's artwork. This is something you can view on YouTube. I thought there was going to be exhibits, information about Van Gogh's life, history on some of the paintings, etc. This was a HUGE disappointment to me and my three children. After we left the room playing the video, one of my kids said, "Is that it?" I even asked an employee if there was anything else because I couldn't believe that's all there was to this "experience." There is also very little comfortable seating. We sat on a cold, hard, concrete floor. I'm angry that I spent money on this.

We really enjoyed it! Make sure to sit in front of the pillars or mirrors so you can see the entire wall. If you are admitted in the middle of the show (it’s continuous) , you should be able to get a good spot to watch When people leave at the conclusion. Make sure you see the entire show. We went June 15 and although the city was open, masks were required for everyone regardless of vaccination status.

***NOT for families. Parents should read.
From descriptions and videos online, it seemed the Van Gogh Experience would be a good family activity with our one year old who is pretty chill. I saw a lot of reviews of families “wandering” and reacting together. While the whole staff was very, very kind and had obviously had a lot of littles come through because they showed us where the changing tables were, etc., it seems a family’s experience will be based on who you get stuck with in the audience. Our “group” stuck to their spots and glared if we tried to wander, and no one wanted a peep to come from anyone else. Our daughter wasn’t crying or yelling, but dropped her dad’s phone and then her sippy cup in quick succession, and some man came flying at us hissing, “Can you stop that? Grab her! Grab her!” whipping his head around continually to check on us. He just kept making us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome that I left in tears without getting to see the show or introduce my girl to Van Gogh’s work.
I know it isn’t the venue’s fault, but the event really needs a clear definition as to what it is and who it is for. Is it for stoic, silent contemplation for adults only that a child just existing and not even crying is unwelcome? Or are families welcome and can it be an active experience of wandering around? We are happy to steer clear of non family friendly events, but it sucks that this one is or is not depending on who you get in the room with because we’ve heard from families whose kids were doing much more than accidentally dropping something and they had a blast, but I’ve also seen reviews from people appalled that anyone would ever take a child; to those people, please know it just is not clear! This event needs rules and definitions.
For us at least, it felt like a movie theatre experience that I never would have taken my girl to had I known. I’m just so sad about our experience. We planned the whole trip around getting there…
Also know that it is one big room with a balcony and two small adjoining rooms with the same show, not multiple exhibits to walk through. It is beautiful to see the work from what I got to enjoy before feeling unwelcome by another unkind patron, but the price is steep for what it is and it was a nightmare trying to find parking as there’s one valet garage or a parking lot blocks away.

Its not worth the $55+ dollars. $20 would be plenty. It would make a good date night I guess. It’s not quite what you would expect. You do not visit multiple rooms to view the producton of artwork. There are 2 rooms side by side with same presentation. You sit and enjoy from any angle. I don’t know why they sell beverages that they allow to be brought inside the presentation area. As I sipped the $10 cheap wine I was approached 2 different times and asked to wear my mask between sips, even though I was social distanced 6+ feet from anyone else. So finally I just finished my beverage quickly to be done with it, and the attendant that was harassing me then brought another attendant by to check that I was wearing a mask

Very disappointed in this successful attempt to cash in on a famous artist. (I’m sure the folks behind this are laughing all the way to the bank.). Thought it was equal to a junior high student’s audio-visual school assignment. No context is given, just closeups of the artists work manipulated into movement. Music was great but there was no connection to the visuals, just used music to pump up emotion. It is way too expensive. Save your money and go to the Chicago Art Institute to see Van Gogh’s actual work and buy an art book from the museum’s gift shop. That will cost you less, you’ll learn a lot more and support a great institution that really benefits everyone.

It felt like a scam and the photos depicted a much different experience. Kudos (I guess) to their marketing and sales department for pulling this off. I thought this would be a mix of interactive experience, multiroom exhibit, and some information about Van Gogh and his art. Instead this is a 35 min projector movie that displays badly rendered images of his art on the walls and on the floor. The mirrors you see hold no significance in person, but look cool in the photos. This is a one room experience and you will be sitting on the floor the whole time or standing but if you try and walk around you will probably get mean looks as it lessens the immersive experience for those around you.. The music was super loud and at certain points I felt like I was at a rave -- which would be cool if the rest of the experience didn't suck so badly. If you purchase the VIP package (which I sadly did) they give you deflated cushions to sit on, a poster with their branding splashed in the middle, and a Van Gogh coffee table book. Even though the experience sucked I was actually really excited for the book because at least I'd have something but even that was awful. Their branding was also splashed on the cover of the "book" which made it seem like a brochure. The inside didn't contain interesting photos of Van Gogh's art but instead had photos of the exhibit. So you'll see the exact same marketing images that convinced you to buy this. All in all, I would say that this was a terrible experience for the money. If this was $25 then it would be a lot more reasonable than the $60 per person.
