L'Apres Midid sur la rand Jatte is a great painting. But if you go just for that, you will be disappointed. I love and studied this painting in detail about 58 years ago. But it is behind glass and may not measure up to your...More

We toured the Art Institute this spring with our family and found it amazing. We had a guide who shared many facts about each set of exhibits, adding interest for the whole family who age from 78 down to 8 years of age. The works...More

You absolutely cannot leave Chicago without visiting the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition to all the amazing collections, the building itself is magnificent. Don't miss spending an afternoon here!

Like everything in Chicago, this is BIG. We targeted specific areas to explore (American art, Impressionism), but it still took a long time to do it right. We hit the place at peak tourist times, but still managed to observe popular works without obstruction. Definitely...More

We went early Sunday afternoon, July 1.Fortunately we had City Passes. Our queue was considerably shorter than the general admission line and when we left over 3 hours later, the general admission line was out the door and down the steps. The audio self tour...More

Beautiful space. Makes for a good spot for a indoor stroll if you're looking to beat the heat or cold and it's located just off M. Park so prime area if you want to make a day of it.

Most people start this museum in the wrong area. Please begin in the lower level to see the Miniature Rooms. They are amazing. During my first visit to The Art Institute (in the 80s), I accidentally found this area, and I've been waiting to go...More

Went to Chicago Art Museum on a last minute whim due to bad weather. The best art exhibition was from Charles White, an African American artist from Chicago. A must see!!!!

I have never tried to see the entire museum. The modern wing deserves 1 1/2-2 hours.

Yes, you’ll still have to wait in line at the ticket booth by the main entrance for the special exhibit tickets. But the lines are rarely that bad even on weekends. I bet on a Thursday you’ll have minimal wait time.
