The Clutha Gold Trail is relatively short, taking only a couple of days, but can be combined with the Roxburgh Gorge Trail for a great three day cycle trip. The trail is very well maintained with interesting signs describing the local history and biology. The...More

The first few kilometres of the trail contain some very sharp bends, and need to be navigated with caution. We travelled early in the season, and it looked as if there was a need for some maintenance in parts. The trail is quite narrow in...More

Hello Patrick, Thank you for your review - it's great to hear you enjoyed your journey on our fabulous trail. Over the past couple of months, our trail maintenance contractors have been working hard to keep the trail open while they repair significant storm damage...More

We enjoyed a great few days from Clyde to Lawrence, taking in the boat ride from Doctors Point, which was also a highlight, the ride up to the Roxborough dam was quite tough, but you could walk the steep bits, the river was just outstanding...More

I've always assumed that the name 'Clutha Gold' referred to the autumn colours of the trees along the river. However, I've also been told it is because of the gold found in the river during the gold rush. Either way, the Clutha Gold is a...More

If you can do this trail as well as the central otago rail trail you should. Quite different but equally stunning and a teeny bit more challenging. Side trips are wonderful. Facilities along the way are really good and people very friendly.

This is such a beautiful track. It can be biked in two days, 1 night. The track surface is so smooth so you're in for a fast, easy ride. The scenery along the Clutha river is amazing, especially with those autumn colours

A great one day ride. We enjoyed the scenery alongside the river and the history of the early gold mining days. April was a great time to ride, not too hot and great autumn colours. "Bike it Now" provided the bikes and our tour itinerary,...More

Awesome. Is definitely wort the trip. Scenery is just fantastic and I would state it challenges the Otago Rail Trail having done it 3 times. What it doesn't offer against the rail trail is the wee social coffee/drink sites but I am sure that will...More
