My wife and i did this trail as part of a two week cycling holiday all organised by Central Cycle trails Ltd. They are brilliant!!
We did the trail over two days, Lake Roxburgh to Millers Flat the first day and then Millers Flat to Lawrence the second.
The first day was absolutely lovely, vert easy with plenty of time to enjoy the journey. the weather turned a bit chilly but we had lovely warm overnight accommodation so were well prepared for day 2. This section was 44kms long and the first part to Beaumont was great. It was the ride from Beaumont to Lawrence that was perhaps a little disappointing as much of the ride was longside the main highway with nowhere to stop and eat our lunch away from the traffic.
However, that shouldn't distract from what was an overall enjoyable couple of days
What was noticeable was the very few riders we met on the trail which might indicate that this trail is underutilised.

This is a fantastic trail. It's very well maintained and is an easy ride with beautiful views of the Clutha River and surrounds, There are only a few hills, and the e-bike option is a good one for anyone who is put off by peddling uphill. The stretch from the Roxburgh Dam to Beaumont is the most beautiful. The leg from Beaumont to Lawrence runs along the state highway, out of necessity, but the tunnel at the top is well worth the climb, and from there the trail pretty much parts company with the highway and heads into farmland for the last few kms into Lawrence.

People seem to do the trail in two days, but super-fit off-road fans could easily do it in one. We were based at the Roxburgh Lodge and did the trail in two days, assisted by Roxburgh Passenger Transport and Highland Bike Hire (fantastic bikes in excellent condition).

This bike ride was nice but for us it was a mistake taking two days and staying at Beaumont. We arrived at Beaumont just after lunch and there was nothing to do there. We only took a couple of hours to bike to Lawrence the next day. We should have bike straight there as it is much more interesting.

We used Shebikeshebikes to organise this wonderful adventure. As usual they delivered excellent service with a perfect itinerary for what we wanted. They helped with the best dates, so as to to enjoy the best of the autumn colours in the area, our accommodation options and return shuttle and e-bikes.

It all went seamlessly, from our first ever ride on e-bikes (which included excellent tuition and practice before we set off).

Day 1 is spectacular, along the mighty Clutha and the autumn colours were glorious. Staying at the Quince Cottage in Millers Flat was an absolute ‘stand out’ hospitality experience. Day 2 and 3 are more rural but lots to see and enjoy learning about relating to the area. We had lovely food at the Beaumont Hotel including their famous whitebait meal. Lawrence was a very interesting place to finish at, so much so I hope to return more and have more time to explore the area.

Cycled from Roxburgh to Lawrence in about 6-7 hours on conventional bikes. Weather wasn't great, and we thought of cancelling, but it did not distract from the experience at all. Track in excellent condition and stunning colours. Very gentle rise towards tunnel but nothing to be concerned about. Excellent signage.

The cycle trail was not difficult at all and I am 66 years old.
Highly recommend it.

Not too flat to be boring, not to difficult to be scared. Spectacular views and amazing scenery. Well used and maintained track.

I have done two sections of the trail. Firstly with my family from Lawrence to the tunnel on the bikes and then ran from Roxburgh along the trail heading towards to Dam. Both parts are good for both bikes and running, but there are some sharp turns so be aware that you are experienced as my daughter missed a turn and ended in water, but all safe. The route is definately not flat so be aware that it it is up and down. Take a torch for the tunnel.

Better than the Rail trail from our perspective. Beautiful and varied. 3 days ideal. ‘Bike it now’ was lovely to deal with-good recommendations except we chose our own in Lawrence.

Rode the Clutha Gold Trail and Roxburgh Gorge Trail, organised through SheBikesHeBikes and as usual they did a stellar job of organising another superb biking adventure for our family of 4, including 2 teens. The trail is beautiful and quite remote in some places, we had one day of sunshine, one day of freezing wind and rain and one day of snow. The organiser was incredibly accommodating of us and any of our requests, and a special mention to Melrose Cottages where we stayed one of the two nights for a very warm welcome and delicious dinner.
