About
A trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon is like no other. Situated in the largest Wilderness Area in the lower 48, the 105 mile long Middle Fork of the Salmon cuts the Frank Church-River of no Return Wilderness Area directly in half. You will see Native American cultural sites, remnants of early Euro-American homesteaders, and wildlife including bald eagles and osprey, mule deer, Rock Mountain bighorn sheep, river otter, and many others. The Middle Fork of the Salmon was one of the eight original river sections designated in 1968 under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and has been managed as a catch-and-release, blue Ribbon Trout fishery since 1973 making it the best dry-fly fishing Wilderness experiences in the World. You will not be disappointed with a trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon.

Idaho River Adventures provides a 6d trip on the main Slamon river that is unrivaled! Starting with the owner's attention to detail and extraordinary commitment to communication with his guides and clients to the seamless logistics and awesome food, you can't do any better than a trip with Idaho River Adventures. The pre-trip packing list, meeting/briefing with the owner and prompt answers to all our questions before the trip set us up for a great trip. The guides' commitment to personal and camp hygiene ensured we stayed healthy and the wildlife (a bear came by the camp one night, but was easily-discouraged, all food was properly-managed) stayed wild. Our guides were awesome - unassuming, personable, kind, professional, and hard-working. Every day included a briefing at breakfast and discussion of what to expect. The equipment provided was first-rate, from the, sleeping outfit, to the 4-person tents (for 2 ppl), to the tables and chairs provided at every camp, as well as the inflatable duckies the rafts. Every meal was excellent, almost everything made from scratch on the river by the guides (including appetizers and desserts every day!) Salmon, chicken, porkchops, and steak with fresh fruit and vegetables every day. French press coffee every morning. Unlimited snacks and drinking water were also available on the rafts throughout the day. No detail was too small, as electrolyte, lemonade, iced tea and hot chocolate mixes were always available, too. Accommodation was made for dietary restrictions and preferences as well as medical needs without any fuss or fanfare. Idaho River Adventures is a first-rate outfit - highly-recommended for your trip on the Salmon river. One small clarification - Idaho River Adventures now works out of a new home in SALMON, ID (not Stanley)

Spending a week on the Middle Fork of the Salmon has been on my bucket list for years. Idaho River Adventures is the perfect outfitter to make the dream happen! From the start, Dustin’s excellent communication helped us feel well prepared and excited for our adventure. Our group, ranging from 8 years to 70’s, took a short flight into the Frank to meet our guides and boats. It was our guides, Taylor, Madi, Ryan, Owen, Chloe, Blaine and Jack who really made the trip magical. They shared their passion for not only the river, but the people, history and fish that make this space so incredible. We splashed through rapids, road the duckie, took hikes and fished our way downstream to wonderful camps. Late afternoons into the evenings, we shared delicious and plentiful meals and laughter before falling into a comfortable sleep. I have a new appreciation for the efforts our guides, Dustin and IRA put into ensuring we have such a memorable experience. I am already anticipating another journey with this crew and encourage anyone to do it. It changes you.

Great Middle Fork River Trip with IRA!! I was a single female traveling solo and I had a blast. Dustin and the guides were excellent, the food was delicious. There is nothing like sleeping under the stars by the river. I packed exactly what was on the packing list and this Texas girl does not understand fleece. Texas fleece and Idaho fleece are two different things. Pack something warm for the first two days of an August trip and maybe a warm hat for mornings. Also a portable phone charger is a must!! Loved, loved, loved this adventure!!

Our trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon river with Idaho River Adventures was truly one of the best vacation of our lives (ages 61 and 64). The river and scenery were fantastic. The guides were warm and engaging, 100% on top of everything we encountered, and worked their asses off to set up our camps and cook excellent meals. We had the rare experience in the modern world of being totally unplugged and were able to appreciate every minute of it thanks to the attention to detail, caring, and skill of Dustin and team.

I have rafted a number of Idaho rivers and all are unique and exceptional. My most recent trip on the Main-Middle Salmon is no exception! Options included: stand-up paddle boarding, ducky/kayaking, 4-6 person rowing or joining a guide on an oar boat. Group was about 24 including guides and we felt like a large extended family by the end of the trip. The guides were amazing and worked together as a seamless unit. The group was congenial, and everyone pitched in to help as needed (although there was no expectation that we do so). The food was excellent, and the crew were very sensitive to any dietary needs. The scenery was breath-taking. Lots of wildlife including big-horn sheep, black bears, deer, bald eagles, heron, otters, mink, etc. Even star-gazing at night in a dark-sky wilderness is so different from the city! 6 days without electronics and an opportunity to be one with nature and get away from it all.

What an amazing experience! Our group of seven friends travelled from around the US and Canada and met up for this trip. Our already high expectations were exceeded a thousand fold. The guides were so skilled, energetic, fun and they worked so hard to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. The food was insane. The scenery was surreal. The campsites were great. The trip made me see our environment in a whole new light. I would do this trip again in a heart beat.

We had a phenomenal trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon with the Idaho River Adventure crew. They made everyone feel like family and were great at explaining what we needed to do while navigating the rapids. At every camp, they prepared delicious, fresh food. They were also extremely competent when unexpected events occurred. I highly recommend Dustin and his team for your rafting adventures!

My husband, Lee, and myself just returned from a 6 day raft trip with Idaho River Adventures on the Main Salmon. What a fabulous trip. It was well organized, communication among guides and owner, Dustin Aherin, were clear, the equipment was new and functional and the food was fabulous. We had 2 birthdays on the trip celebrated with carrot cake and chocolate cake. We had the pleasure and opportunity to be with one of the most experienced and knowledgeable river guides in the West, Jon Barker. He guided us down the River on his 32ft mother ship holding all our gear and food. His experience on the Salmon River could be called unparalleled. His father, Jon AK Barker, started Barker River Trips about 50 years ago in Lewiston, ID, and son Jon became a guide at an early age.
